I'd get these...Logitech makes good stuff. Cheaper, and almost 2x the watts and you get an actual sub.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ImageG...2.1%20Speakers

I have the Z-5500's (totally different category, I know - but still Logitech) and a bunch of other Logitech stuff and all of them are great. I've never had a bad experience with Logitech - always great stuff for a great price, so I always recommend them.

Same here, love Logitech.

I have a :
Logitech Media Keyboard Elite for 3 years now and it's still perfect (and I'm a computer geek).
Logitech MX1000 = favo desktop mouse
Logitech VX Revolution = favo laptop mouse
Logitech RumblePad 2 Forece Feedback = favo gamepad
Logitech Z-2300 (also other category but man this thing rocks for just a 2.1 system).

Back on topic, I know JBL makes decent car speakers (have a let of Limited Edition 150W RMS in my own car) can't say anything really about their pc systems although my guess would be that it will not be bad.

What do you want for your friend, 2.1 or 2.0, max costs?

for just youtube and other low quality sound source music any speakers will do especially with low quality onboard sound card.
also cheap 2.1 are waste of money

standard stereo speakers - http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_u...phileAV30.html or any from the m-audio line. Probably the best bang for a buck as far speakers for PC go.

We aren't looking to decode DTS master audio, it's just simple computer speakers. He linked some over-priced, cheap looking JBL speakers so I linked him Logitech.

Here we are looking at $30 and $40 speakers and you link us a $100 set of speakers then call what we are looking at "crap." Well duh, for 2.5x the price of course those speakers better make the others look like crap.

Sorry about my previous link hippie, I meant to link the actual product page, not the gallery.

Also not saying newegg had the cheapest price, but you linked from newegg so I linked newegg as well to keep things simple. Typically, I find amazon has the cheapest final price as long as you qualify for free shipping (I have amazon prime - so free 2 day shipping on almost anything).

But generally, Logitech products are superior at a lesser cost, which is why I linked one.

I have 2 G5 Laser Mice (1 1st gen, 1 2nd gen), Pure-Fi iPod Speakers, Z-5500 Digital THX Ceritified 5.1 system (my dad has the Z-680's - predecessor to the Z-5500's), and Driving Force GT Wheel for my PS3. Each and every one of these products have performed fantastically and were all cheaper than the competition while offering more features too.

No problem BP . I did find the page . they look pretty good . The only problem is the computer desk she has does'nt have a lot of room . the sub may not fit down below .

I have a logitech wireless keyboard & mouse & love them . I thought about geeting here a board & mouse . But speakers would be better for as much as she uses her computer .

Well, all I can say is keep the sub if you can. For the price range you are looking at, 2.0 and 2.1 systems can all be had.

However, with the cheaper systems, you can't rely too much on innovation and high-tech to get sound, you have to rely on basic output from the speaker itself, and there's no way a few puny 2 or 3 inch drivers are going to give you any substantial base, so might as well take the advantage of having a small 6" sub to give you some.

Do what I did and cheat.

Does she own a Hi-fi of somesort with a pair of speakers (or more)? If so, just pickup a magic cable that connects the PC's audio out socket (little headphone plug deal) to the red and black Aux-in sockets on the back (or front) of her hi-fi. Just set the hi-fi to auxilary mode, then you can play the pc music/ sound through her hi-fi with much better quality and graphic equalizer controls han any of those horrid little speaker sets will.

I have a half knackered old hi-fi with a pair 50watt speakers, but they produce beautiful sound and rather good base, espaically given the Realtec audio driver software programme thingy with all its settings to play with....

Worth a thought anyway.

+1 for logitech. While the bass might be lacking, a $40 2.0 system should be ok for what you require. Just keep expectations reasonable.

as Neil said headphones would be best sound for the dollars
