What to do with this LiPo...? - 11.11.2009, 11:36 AM

I just took my lipo and made some pics of it, I'm unsure if I can charge and discharge (drive) the LiPo. It looks like it got a dent in one of the cells, and that cell "grow". But I'm unsure if the growing comes because of the cell is puffing or it's just because the cell had to go somewhere because there was made a dent. (It's hard to explain, but I hope you guys get what I'm trying to explain) This happened because the LiPo smashed on a piece of plastic. I drove once with it and charged it once since it got that dent and nothing happened, but I'm still not sure if it's safe. A few pics:

So what should I do? Throw it away? Re-solder it to a 4 cell? Or just keep driving with it?

The side view makes it look horrible, I think making a 4s pack might be best but wait for Linc or one of the fellas whom have more knowledge ultimately help you decide.

I retired from RC, now life is all about guns and long range shooting.

Dent looks bad, make a 4s out of it. You may be able to flatten the cell back out, but if the foil is ruptured that cell is done.

As said, make it a 4s.

How can I flat that cell? Put it in a vice and press the whole pack together? By foil you mean that silver/grey wrap around the battery, right? It isn't ruptured, but it is like foulded double. It doesn't look not-factory, so that might be normal. Oh, and the dent smells a bit sore (And from what I've read here on the forum, that isn't good.)

A few new (better) pics to make it easier:

And another question; is it hard to de-solder the top cell of the pack?

The foil is torn, look at your top pic. The cells come apart pretty easy, use std solder on this pack.

Nasty little rip- looks like impact damage against gravel or rough asphalt/ tarmac?

Once you seperate theat cell, hook it upto a 12v car battery and run away, very quickly!

It was the shocktower of the LST

Well, I was also thinking about what to do with it. Throwing it against a wall won't do anything, right? Put it in a little fire?

@Linc, I didn't see that little torn there. It's hard to see in real, on the pic it is much easier lol. Thank you for your help! I will desolder that bad cell in a few weeks, I'm a bit disappointed now and I haven't got much time. (But I'll buy a new one in the meantime)
