I want to make my emaxx a bit more fun. I'm not looking to blow the doors off every nitro out there(just most), I just want some more power and longer run times. I don't want to spend a fortune either. What brushless esc and motor with what gearing should I go with? What kind of run time could I expect? Thanks for the help.
Welcome BigJ! If you want somthing nice, not tooo powerfull, id go for a Fiegao 9 or 10L, on 12 or 14 cells , if you get the 10L, you could even go 16 if you want. As for a controller a 9920 would be the best for what you want, and the cheapest!
What upgrades do you already have?
The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

welcome BigJ. I would say a 9xl and a 9920 for good runtimes but it all depends on how much money you want to spend and how many cells you are going to run.
What you have as upgrades would greatly influency my recommendation. What cell count you have or plan on running to. What chassis do you have now? cvds steel idlers anything?

Man, thanks for all the replies, on most forums I'm luck to get one reply. The Maxx is stock, but perfect condition. I'm thinkin' the 9920 and 9L are the way for me to go. I'll probably run it on 12 - 16 cells. 33-3800s. What drivetrain upgrades will I need to do for the truck to handle that? Thanks again.
I would go with steel idlers for the trans. The stock sliders will need to be replaced with cvds for wheels and center. For 16 cells The 9L is going to get hot. I find the xl motors has less problem with this. The 8xl is a great motor. It would give you good torque and speed. Works well on 12 -16 cells to. It would take more if you choose.

I would also suggest an XL!
7XL if you're after speed, 9XL if you are after runtime. 8XL for something in between.
I have 7XL and an 8XL, and run them on 14 cells. I would suggest the 8XL to you. Can't go wrong.
And yeah, Mikes steel idlers are a good insurance for your tranny.
Driveshafts, if you can afford, otherwise you'll be waiting for replacements in no time. (BL power is just too tempting to always ease into throttle)

joosten, you have to remember; power is the product of rpm and torque. More rpm = more power, and more torque = more power. The L series motors get their power from high rpm's and the XL motors get their power from torque. Both L and XL motors can be geared to give the same speed - but the main advantages of XL motors is they run cooler and have the potential for higher cell counts.
You said yourself, the 8L in your TXT needs a fan to keep it cool. If you ran an 8XL, you could gear up to get the same speed and you won't need a fan to keep temps down.
Basically, unless weight is a big issue, XL motors are always the better choice over L motors.
The torque of the xl motors passes the 8L. My brother used to run the 8L. He like the xl motors much better. You can gear them for more speed have more torque with less heat. I had a 7xl geared 22 66 with 18 cells on it. The 8L didn't stand a chance. It could have used a fan on it. It was fast and powerful.
