Cow R/C Jumbo Screw Catcher Review - 01.11.2010, 04:44 PM

I recently acquired one of Cow R/C's "Jumbo Screw Catcher" work mats. While I honestly wouldn't have thought about purchasing something like this before, I will say it has come in quite handy already. I don't know about you, but I get tired of climbing under the bench to find tiny screws/nuts/washers in the shadows.

The whole mat measures 30" x 24" and is 3/8" thick. The main work area is 28" x 18.5", and is large enough to hold anything 8th scale and smaller, has a magnetic base to keep screws from bouncing into oblivion, and has convenient little tool/parts pockets. Each of the smaller pockets are 3" x 1.25" and are perfect for containing various screws, nuts, etc. The larger pockets are 8.5" x 3" and are large enough for most of those pesky hand tools that tend to roll off a bench. The entire base is magnetic and the bright white makes finding stray screws easy. The foam walls appear to be made of a neoprene type of material, so it should be sturdy and last a long time.

Now, on to the pictures!

Here is the mat fresh out of the box. The inserts are pre-cut, easily removeable, and can be used for future storage of the mat when not in use:

With all the inserts removed. The package also came with a few decals.

In this picture, you can see the thickness of the foam "walls".

This just shows how big the mat is compared to my not-so-clean Xray XT8 truggy.

And, here is a very small video showing how the magnetic base helps prevent screws bouncing if dropped.

looks absolutely perfect for working on those damn micro-t's. I swear, I buy a screw kit everytime I work on mine to replace what I lose.

As long as you toss them a Kangaroo or Wombat every once in a while they leave you alone

Brian love the paint job on your truggy!

My friend did the same thing to his B4 and I gave him a ton of grief about it...that is until one day I had to take the body off of my crt.5 multiple times to check things. Now he gives me a hard time.

The pit mat is a great idea. Thanks for the review and link!

It's the new "transparent black".

Actually, I damage these things too fast to spend all kinds of time in painting them up. So, I just buy the shell, trim it up, and apply stickers. Done!

Don't blame you for not spending time painting. Painting rc bodies is my least favorite part of our hobby

I have one of these gems - it is a nice mat for working on stuff(usually not my own, so the magnetic base is nice and welcome feature). Definately "Monster approved". Good job on this, Cow!

Going to have to get one for myself. Anyone with a helicopter knows how much of a pain head shims can be....

All I ever wanted was an honest weeks pay for an honest days work.

These are cool, not cheap though. I can see them being good for other projects too.
