Traxxas Slash 4x4 2s/3s motor choices -
01.31.2010, 03:33 PM
Hello
Looking around trying to find info on what my motor choices would be when and hopefully before the traxxas motor goes leaving me with a Traxxas sensored ESC unless it goes to. Woulded mind running a sensored motor but doesn't matter. I'd like some options staying with 2s for now not sure what ROAR rules we be but on the indoor track that where running on I find 2s enough vary conpetitive. I also have a spare Mamba Max not the pro and CC Monster. So Motor choices please.

I wouldn't cout on the traxxas vileneon motor dying any time soon, it's actually a farely decent motor and should last awhile unless you gear it high and heat everything up. If it does go soon, a neu 1509 would be a pretty good motor choice.

Or a 50 series Medusa would do ( on 2 a 4600, on 3s 3300)
1. MBX-6 T8 1900KV, RX8 ON 4S
2. MBX-5T 1520, MMM ON 5S
3. MBX-5 ONROAD CONVERSION 1515, MMM ON 5S
4. MRX-3 ON ROAD CONVERSION 1512, MMM ON 6S
5. TEN T 2650 T8, MMP ON 3S

I'm under the impression that these motors run hot in the frist place no personal experiance though. I've done a search for Medusa I'm guessing you mean 36-50 4600kv not finding many for sale. and wondering why you feel a 3300kv wouldn't be a better choice. my current setup is Traxxas 3500kv motor, Traxxas ESC, 13/52 gearing 2s 4500mah 30c Flightmax either stock tires or Proline Calibers.

Is there a noticable differance between the V2 Medusa and the regular Afterburner motors?

Not sure exactly...I run a 3300kv 1509 Neu on 3s in my crt.5 and it flies so I am basing my opinion on that seeing as the slash is not that much heavier than my crt.5 w/the extended chassis
1. MBX-6 T8 1900KV, RX8 ON 4S
2. MBX-5T 1520, MMM ON 5S
3. MBX-5 ONROAD CONVERSION 1515, MMM ON 5S
4. MRX-3 ON ROAD CONVERSION 1512, MMM ON 6S

Im running a Neu 1509 1.5y (2400kv) on 3s 5000 25/50c pack in my slash 4x4 i though i havent ran it much it seem VERY controlable yet i can easily gear it to the moon for playing. I think the extra weight also seems to settle the truck, as for running on 2s the 1509 3300kv would be perfect for indoor racing and then toss a 3s in it for outside or playing.

Thanks guys this is exactly the dicussion I was looking for, I'll look at Neu. Are there any sugestions on sensored motors, there are more being released everyday, seen some that say they are for short cource not sure if implied 2x4 or 4x4, Tekin or others. Any other motors I should be looking at.

Tekin has a nice combo that would work as well...the Redline series of motors is very good paired w/a MMPro esc for easy tunability/or aTekin esc
1. MBX-6 T8 1900KV, RX8 ON 4S
2. MBX-5T 1520, MMM ON 5S
3. MBX-5 ONROAD CONVERSION 1515, MMM ON 5S
4. MRX-3 ON ROAD CONVERSION 1512, MMM ON 6S
5. TEN T 2650 T8, MMP ON 3S

I like the VXL on 2s for racing indoor off road on carpet. Does great. Never got too hot, nothing a small heat-sink can't fix. Ran 3s bashing for the length of the battery nothing thermaled out and motor temp was fine.
However there is a guy running a castle 2650 on 3s in the short coarse open using the MMM and Losi 8ight shocks on all four corners. Kicked every ones butt on the Amain by at least three laps. Looks pretty clean with the stock receiver tossed and the rustler one up front. Like Traxxas promoted.

I got a great deal on a Slash 4x4 and have a Neu 1512 2d 2600 kv.Will the stock traxxas ESC handle this motor on 3s lipo.Yea I know it will be overpowered but the Neu was under 110.00 dollars to good to pass up.

i HIGHLY doubt the vxl will handle that motor..... surprisingly the vxl is really smooth decent for racing with a 540 sensored motor, but its not that stout of a controller.
Id sell the vxl system as a whole and buy you a Mamba max pro with the money and be done with it.

When my PE arrives I'm still trying to decide on 2650kv w/3s or my 1512 1700kv w/4s or possibly 5s ? Decisions Decisions
I retired from RC, now life is all about guns and long range shooting.

Slash 4x4 PE with the MMM/2650 combo and Losi 8ight shocks. My next "upgrade" will be moving down to 3s. It's just a bit much on 4s
