Neu 1521 in a maxx??? - 02.10.2010, 09:28 PM

Is there any benefice to put a 1521 1.5D in a FLM maxx instead of a 1515 1y.
It weight arounr 12 pound and more than 15 inch wb.
Can we gear it for more speed ? I'm actualy 20 / 51 with a strobe slipper and sprong.
Is it a lot overkill or 1515 1y is plenty.
I know 1515 1y will be faster than 1521 1.5d for the same gearing and voltage due to Kv rating.

I'm ok for the Diff upgrade : I have the LST2 one.
I'm ok on the trans side: Thanks to Ultramaxxed gears and idlers.
Ue center drive shaft.

I plan to run 4s mainly and few 5s and 6s. Darwn ice charger ( 4s maxx charge)

Here is my ride.

Thanks
Fred

I think it's an overkill. The 1515 1Y is more than enough on my gmaxx with UE stuff on it. I think I have it geared 51/20 or 51/19 and no temp problems at all.

If I'm not mistaken, I think Jordan from Australia put a 1521 on his gmaxx.

Hmm... Either motor will be an excellent choice on 4s just gear accordingly.

Are you looking for speed or just bashing around?

I would only use the 1521/1.5D if you were bashing around. The D winds tend to be a little more demanding on the Amps and batteries. Like Lito said the 1515/1Y will be more than enough to push it around!

1515 is plenty, but you could get away w/ a 1521 for fun. Lots of wheelies then..

I only bash.
There's no association near my home to race.
But I bash hard.
I want a killer setup.
I'll try to find Jordan post on his setup.

Thanks for your input guys

Also, not to be overlooked, is the CC 1518/1Y 1800kv motor. Being a Y-wind would be a bit more suited to the truck and still have crazy wheel standing power!

I have a 1521 on my 18lb savage with 6 cells and I have spent countless hours trying to bulitproof all the parts it always breaks. Stay with the 1515

If you want a killer setup, take a lower kV and higher voltage to get some efficiency, example 1521 1Y or 1520 1Y with 5 or 6S.
An overkill motor like those 1520/1521 won't necessary break your drive train if you configure correctly you ESC (PUNCH CONTROL LOL !!!!) but will give you very nice cool temp and run times compare to higher kV and smaller 1515 1Y motor. this point counts a lot because the summer is coming :D.
A longer motor can always give you extra needer power if you require it one day, better to potentially have it instead need it !

Since there is more than 3 feet of snow here, I put aside the truck for now.
My wife made a return to college as full time a nurse student after 15 years as forestry tech!. So I don't have a lot ( if not at all) time to play with the maxx. But I have some plan for the winter

The kids are growing really fast!!
