power question - 03.03.2010, 09:38 AM

i've got something weird going on. on one of my mmm setups, i'll plug in the battery, then turn on the radio, then the esc. then i turn on the on switch. then I wait for it to arm, and it does. then...nothing. no throttle, no steering. however, the mmm light is on like it was armed and ready to go.

now, here's the weird part. if i unplug it and then re-plug it in, it will power up fine. i'll get full throttle and brakes, and steering.

it seems like the receiver isn't picking up the esc on occassion. anyone else have this happen?

the radio batteries are new, and i'm using a spektrum dx2. but i think it's an older model receiver.

is this an esc problem or a receiver problem?

any other ideas?

Same thing happens with all my other ESC's at times. I'm using the Nomadio(5 rx's) and Airtronics(2 rx's). Doesn't happen with my cheapo AM radio at all. I just turn the ESC on/off and all is good.

thanks snellemin. i was about to go out and buy another receiver. I'll keep an eye on it, but you're right, it's just a re-plug and turn on and it's fine.

Try increasing the arming time on the esc via castlelink- 2 seconds should do the trick*.

*may be a lie.

Actually, I think Neil is right. I set the arm time to ~2 seconds on all my setups, which use Spektrum.

This is especially true on older Spektrum receivers, they took much longer to sync with the transmitter; the newer ones sync up within Milliseconds, so it's generally not an issue with new receivers. Increasing the arming time will extend the arming window, allowing the TX and RX to sync. Let us know how this works out!

yes, since we have 2 different smart devices that have their own failsafes etc etc.
on an AM radio where a loss of signal equates no a nill servo pulse signal will put the MMM into failsafe, whereas a spektrum or other smart brand of radio will give the MMM the signal that it is told, hence if you didnt re-program your failsafes in the spektrum after using the same reciver on a nitro, all of a sudden the MMM will go reverse when the controller is switched off.

back to the problem at hand, the MMM isnt seeing a signal from the receiver quickly enough so it goes into failsafe, meanwhile, the receiver has just found it's transmitter and comes on-line.
