Cut the shaft???

Hallo boys who of you thinks necessary for not to make slip the pinion, cut the shaft of Feigao\bk\lehner motor?

I cuss hard and live at people that cut thier shafts, I use loctite on the shaft and put the pinion on, you do not even need the grub screw. Just need a pinion puller if you ever want to take it off

I dont like a loctite prefer a grub screw.I dont have the pinion puller :)

your loss I think picking up a 10$ pinion puller is worth it for striength of shaft

sure, you have reason, but the grub screw is more comfortable :)

I put a small flat spot on the shaft. It takes very little away from strength. it makes it makes it tougher for pinnion to spin around on shaft.

I always do it like you, viruss. Grind a flatspot into the shaft, and crank the pinion setscrew as hard as possible. I don't even put threadlock on the setscrew.

Be carefull when you grind the shaft! Don't let the metal shavings enter the motor! Cover it up.

Yes Dafni, I cover always the motor before cutting ...

Today i put in my buggy a Bk 13L whit 6S lipo...
This motor seems very powerful, not less than 1940/8....

3 simple reasons why I don't like the "smear threadlock on the shaft" method:
-it's a mess, really
-needs time to dry, so no quick changes on the track
-if you don't get decent threadlock, the heat from the motor can melt it loose
-if you DO get decent threadlock, it will be hard to pull it off, even with a puller
-pulling hard on pinions puts unneccesairy axial force on the magnet/shaft connection

I am not going to argue, but just to let other know if they come up with the same questions

mess can be cleaned quick with scotch bright
dry time is 24hrs if your changing pinions at track your screwed in first place
cheap decent thread lock all works
if you heat your motor to melt threadlock you done screwed up your motor 400 farehight
pinion puller will pull anything off your shaft without out screwing up rotors glued to shaft

pinion puller put absolutly no pressure on rotor magnets only on tip of shat and pinion

I had the same worries dafni. I didn't like the idea of pulling against the magnet. It is nice to push on the end of the shaft for sure over pulling on magnet. I guess it is only one way to find out how it works. I have to try it one time and see how it goes.

I just get a dremel to the shaft as well, after using threadlock to hold pinions on in my Mini-T its not something I want to do again :)
