Unhappy Vorza set on Fire (video!) - 06.04.2010, 05:11 PM

Just a faulty ESC I think. :(

Does anyone know why my batteries ballooned though? It must of drawn a lot of amps to do that? Anyone have a techy explanation?

Just running Turnigy 4s 5000mah 30C.

It was certainly not how I set it up though, lol.

It must of been an issue inside the ESC but surely HPI test these before giving them to retailers?

Crazy, kind of neat to watch, but sad at the same time. Sorry for your loss.

I would say the lipos kept discharging when whatever blew did, therefor with out anything controlling their current, poof.

No, they don't. It would be impossible to test them all. HPI gets the ESC from Castle and installs it in the model. That's it.

Like you said, defects happen. Even if they could test every one, that wouldn't guarantee that it wouldn't fail.

That is some bad luck that it only worked for ~15 seconds though... That might be a record.

Thats kinda epic, in a bad way

Seems like some kind of fet related dead-short that sucked the life out of the lipos & ignited the esc due to massive current draw. HPI should take care of you though, no worries there, but your lipos look to be a bit buggered...

i'm sure they will be fine after a good slow charge.....hopefully.

the same thing happened to my ezrun 150a esc back when i converted a savage x 4.6. the flightmax 3s lipos puffed about the same amount and they were almost back to normal after a couple cycles on the charger. almost 100 cycles later, the packs are still good but are prematurely aging compared to my other lipos.

just give your lipos a few cycles on the charger and hopefully, they will go back to normal.

edit: the dead ezrun is what motivated me to get a MMM.

They say a good mechanic only needs 2 tools - WD40 & Duct tape. If it moves, and its not supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn't move, and its supposed to, WD40.

the batterys are toast, useing them again is just going to put alot of stres on your new esc because of the highter resistance

Do you think so?

Because they have gone back to normal size and the voltage seems fine. I'll give them a go and see what happens anyway.

My lipo sack has yet to be tested.
