Castle ESC Programable With Iphone/Android Phones?!?! - 06.29.2010, 10:54 PM

Ok well i know its non existence as of right now but i was wondering if castle has ever thought about selling something like this??? I know tekin was releasing or already released a adapter and app for the iphone to program there ESC's directly from the phone. I think it would be great if castle would do something similar but of course better than the other team I think with the sale of 1.7 Million phones and probably another 1.7 million of new second hand iphone users i think they might be a good market for it!?!?! i know castle just released the program card which is very nice but a cell phone set up would be great to have the computer programing feel with out having to carry the ol laptop to the track or the streets where we run??

Just wondering if castle was considering on doing anything, id love to be able play with timings, throttle curves, ect on site with out having to carry a computer around!?!? a cell phone is something that's always just so dam handy!!!

Just a thought!

They tried, but Steve Jobs pulled it from the app store. I guess he's a diehard nitro head, even though he looks like a guy that spends all day drinking lattes at the starbucks inside Barnes and Noble.

I believe the reason ( as stated by castle ) that there isnt a mobile/ iphone app is because iphones in particular cant host usb devices- whether any other mobiles can is another question. Have you seen the field link programmer from Castle?

^^^ I figured it was dueo to some limitation of the USB ports they have. OTOH, I know you can use the droid phones (and more) as a tether to a laptop to the phones data connection.

Surely if you can run internet thru the usb port to a laptop, there has got to be some way to interface to a controller.

I would definitely be interested if they could manage it for the Ipad though :)

They still can't and for the same reason as the iphone. The ipad offerse no USB support except for an adapter to send pictures from your camera to the ipad.

The other thing is that currently the software is built using .NET. You'd need to install Mono on either the Android or iPhone; better luck with the Android since you can mod it. As long as Mono supports enough of the APIs it might work, but I doubt it has the support for interfacing with USB; don't know for sure as haven't looked into it. And then there is USB hosting issue.

I'm a big Apple fan and love their computers and OS, but this is what I think of the iPad:

Caster Fusion F8T - Serpent 811Be - Jammin X2 carbon e-GT conversion - Axial SCX10

I agreed with that until recently. I purchased one for a client to use for flight charts and what not while flying. After some time with it I think it definitely has it's place. I have logmein ignition set up on it as well for him to access his Win7 desktop and it works flawlessly, especially with a wireless keyboard. I have basically eliminated his need to carry a laptop for the most part. The touch screen also enhances the Win7 experience once you get used to it which takes a few minutes.

It's not for everyone but is a great device when coupled with the right apps. The book reader on it is very nice as well although I do think eye fatigue will be greater with it than with a kindle or the like.
