My Savage Flux HP DesertBoy 17 doing over 50mph on 4S. - 08.27.2010, 08:05 PM

I attempted recording some high speed running of my DB17 today. Running 4s, stock pinion and spur. I am running the 39t high speed idler and the tires are smaller truggy racing tires. They're the best thing I have right now for street running.

Anyway, the GPS turned off before I brought the truck in, but it had recorded 56mph max before I started taping. I live at the top of a slight hill so that is helping a little.

At the end of the video, I do some drag race type launches to show how the chassis just squats and goes instead of the wheeling dramatically (i like going forward, not up). It pulls to the left like an SOB when it comes back down though. The MMM is set to full on power and the spur is locked. You'll notice it lays rubber the second time I launch it 2:30.

I also have a Brushless Jammin X2 CRT geared to do 40mph and it pops spoiler slapping wheelies with the same tires.

Also, you'll notice I almost hit the sewer cover at 50+mph. I hate those damn things. Construction is still going on in my subdivision and they won't finish the roads until the houses are done.

Lastly, I was getting some radio interference. Gotta figure that out. DX3R and SR3000

Are those the 30 or 45A Powerpoles? How do they hold up heat wise with all that power?

They are 45 amp power poles. The only size that will accept 10guage wires. They handle the power just fine. They don't even get warm, yet the wire gets hot. If the batteries use smaller wire, 30 amp power poles would work also.

The only issue with them is they can come loose if jolted hard. I have the cables zip tied down so they can't shake around. Works great.

cool vid, looks like a lot more fun than a standard length flux. wheelies get really old after about 5 minuets lol

It's just friction, I believe. You don't need to worry about shock/vibration making it fall out because the wires absorb most of that.

temperatures of 130 are impressive on such a long chassis which actually puts the power to the ground unlike the normal flux... especially with the 39t idler!!!! COME ON MAN!!! 6s is NEXT! i want to see this hit 70mph+!!! remember 80mph has been hit with 25t/43t/39t!!!!

edit...

I just noticed you had a 5t chassis too... do you still have it or did you decide to get the db-17 instead?

I just noticed you had a 5t chassis too... do you still have it or did you decide to get the db-17 instead?
I still have the 5t, but it is being sold. Just waiting on the final payment. The 5t wheelies to much for my liking.

I'll try 6s, I just have to get 25t pinion and find a better place to run.

My 5th has like 85% of its weight in the rear. Db17 is like 70% front.

For the 5T conversions, best thing you can do is put the batteries inside the TVPs.

Yes the DB-17 has a 17" wheelbase, the 5Ts have a 22.4", but with the standard (or even using the middle position) position for the Flux battery boxes being in the rear, it acts like a Flux (or extended Flux) with all the weight in the rear. The DB-X chassis has the tranny/motor up front, so that helps put the weight towards the front to keep the wheelies down. From the pics he's running batteries inside the TVPs at the rear, which helps with his weight distribution.

oh really??? but what happens if you mount your lipos as far forward as possible on the inside of the 5t chassis??? shouldnt that help change the balance enough to keep the front end down???

That won't help enough. If I put the batteries in the back of my DB17, it will still wheelie a lot. So I put the battery boxes back on so I have a lot more weight up front.

I was going to make a battery tray for mounting the batts up front in the 5t, but changed plans and bought the db17 for the other flux I own.

i dont have too many problems with wheeling on my db-17 as long as you use maxx size tires... have a look at my vids... you can see that when i use larger wheels, i find that i wheelie very easily... maxx i use for handling and larger ones for air control when jumping.
