Lowest "Safe" voltage for 2s? - 09.22.2010, 05:56 PM

Just wondering, what's the lowest "safe" voltage I should see on my 2s packs after a full run? (The voltage the charger sees when first plugged in) Thanks

Most chargers will not even charge if the voltage is under 3.0v per cell, its in the programming

Ok, but what's a safe voltage for the batteries?

So as long as it doesn't read 6.0V I'm fine?

Most here run 3.1V voltage on their cut-off and the batteries come back to 3.3 to 3.4v per cell as they cool down. I personally run my cut-off to 3.0 and charge when cool and have never had troubles with any good pack. My maxamps puffed within a year but my hyperions and flightpowers have lived over three years and still going strong

Even if the cells are below 3V at rest, all is not necessarily lost. You can try charging them very slowly (like 1/10C, 0.5A for a 5K pack) and see if they retain any capacity. Bear in mind you should be watching the charge cycle closely in case the pack decides to puff.

High qaulity packs, Hyperion, ThunderPower etc (excludeing MA) will come back just fine if cut off is at 3.0 per cell but still should be set at 3.1-3.2

The cheaper packs IE HobbyCity, Blue Lipos, Batman etc I would use a consevative cut off of 3.4-3.5 to be safe. These packs seem to really struggle getting back to where they need to be when drawn down to low.

Ok, pack was at 6.5v, so it should be fine? For some reason I had though below 7.0V was bad, no idea why...

yes, it's fine. I also have no idea why you thought that.
