Browser ?

I had a issue with my computer today. That required me having a tech fix it. He installed Mozilla fire fox. I all ready had internet explorer installed as my browser. He said it would not hurt to have both on my computer, since i would only be using one at a time. So i would like to know is one better than the other ?. I believe he set up Mozilla & my default. My Mcafee site adviser only shows up on Mozilla & not internet explorer. Is it possible to have it show up on both ?.

FF is a nice browser, way better than IE. Chrome is the slimmest, least mem intensive and most secure browser however, and I find myself using this the most.
No idea on the Mcafee

I also noticed there is no refresh button on FF, like there is on IE.

Mine has it right next to the stop and home buttons. Check the settings maybe?

There is always F5 also :)

He setup my pc were i can use either if the two browers i listed. Do you agree that mozilla is better than IE ?. If it is i will just use it, instead of IE. We also have both setup on our PCs here. Firefox seems to be a bit quicker, but other than that I don't really see that one is better than the other. If there are specific reasons to state preference, then please share that info. Fire Fox is the new item on the block so the younger generation says it is the bomb, but I still don't see the difference.

As for the anti-virus software we have used all of them, and in reality as long as you keep your software updated at least weekly you should have no problems to worry about. All of them do pretty well, but if you allow your updates to lag you will suffer some level of failure. With a good router/firewall, and updated Mc Caffe or Symantic, or Norton you should be fine.

Hi Jerry how have you been ?. I did notice the FF seems a touch faster. My Mcafee updates are automatic. I guess i need to stay of the Porn sites . One thing i dont like about FF is, there is no favorites button like IE. There is the book mark feature, that stores every site that i click the yellow star on. But it does not put all of them in one spot like IE. So if i dont remeber the first couple of letters to the site i want to visit. I'm out of luck.

Been good. Still trying to recover from that 6 week remodel project in California. I just cannot get myself back into cynq. I did miss posting in here though, not to mention reading some of the outlandish antics here on RCM. Good to be back.

Yea remember that FireFox is realitively new here, and IE has been around for quite some time. Still FF is making an impact even though it has a lot to learn/adjust/adapt. I believe in time that FF will try to overcome IE and they will be just like the anti virus software companies trying to out do each other jokying for position $$$$$. I am old school and unless you can show me some serious improvements over Internet Explorer I will stick with what I know. I am not impervious to change, but some things work just fine the way they are. Old Navy moto, if it aint broke don't fix it.

I just found a function called the Library, after doing some RECON as you would call it . It seems all the book marked pages or Favorites are kept there.

i have an old desktop that was really struggling with IE8 and chrome just works so much better. i run it on my laptop (my main pc) and it can only be described as lean and mean. it takes the least amount of ram while getting all of the usual functionality.

I was told by the tech who fixed my PC. That there are some issues with pc's that use IE 8 & XP. So he switched me back to IE 7.

Chrome is the most secure browser, and is very resistant to hacking attempts. It has survived 2 years of the Pwn@own hacking contest. (basically a top hacking tournament for $$$.) Apple's Safari is the worst browser, but even IE8 fell within minutes. FF lasted longer, but was still hacked. Chrome survived the entire day, and only fell on day 2 after the rules were relaxed to allow browser plug-ins to gain exploits.

Another consideration is market share. IE by far has the largest market share, is often used by people who don't pay much mind to their pc, so most malware will target it. Chrome is a much smaller presence, hard/unable to be cracked, so is a far safer browser.
Ultimately it comes down to the basic programming structure of the browser that gives Chrome such a strong resilience. The idea is to never allow programs root control in the event of an exploit. "Sandboxing" IOW, damage control. Similar idea behind the security approaches for the Android OS.

FF is good as there are some nice innovations (that Ie likes to eventually copy) as well as a large plugin library. Chrome is more simplified and streamlined, but still a very rich and robust browser (which does have plugin capability, if you used them, which I'm guessing no.)

Overall, I would just use Chrome, esp if you are having security issues. Doesn't mean you can be careless, but its an extra layer of protection, which will let you "last longer" in those places you are browsing. ;)

This is the first time i have had a issue. I imagine it probably came from the porn sites .
