I'd dial in a little extra torque and/or punch control on the MMM. I thought the 1518 was a handful even in my truggy!

Are you sure he ran the 1518 in a Ve8? I run the 1512 1.5y (same kv, 1800kv) in my Ve8 (and love it BTW). The 1515 is right up against the steering rack, and a 1518 won't even fit. It is not necessarily a bad thing, just a lot of motor; fine for a basher, but way too much for racing IMO.

That motor is great, a little bigger motor will just run cooler if geared for the same speed. I'd run it on 6s though

So, have you tried it? How does it feel? I bet you'll love that motor
