Castle 1410 1y - 02.02.2011, 07:25 PM

The damn endcap has the mounting holed, but they are'nt tapped. I really doen't care to go through the whole send it in and sit till a new one comes so I will prolly tap the holes myself but what the heck!!! Just really pissed. I know there CS is good, but this really should'nt have happened.

No, Castle is tired of people allways swapping motors in and out, it gets old. So now they are making them to be permanently riveted into place.... duh :-)

If I could only draw what I see in my head, then afford to build it, and finaly get to play with it...

Yeah just drill the holes out to 1/8" and use some pop-rivets.....easier than tapping.

I am just kidding, of course. Don't do that....

The holes are there to let the magnetism out, in just the right amount, to hold the motor to the mount. No need for screws when you have 4 pole power to magnetically hold the motor to the al mount.

I heard that it actually had too much torque for conventional screws. They are now stating that you have to weld the steel endbell to the mount, whether it be aluminum or plastic. The holes are just there to give the weld some extra contact.

I may have fudged it up. I used a 3mm tap, but it is a .9 is that threads per mm. either way the last 2 holed I did'nt run the tap all the way through and they held. Maybe someone from castle will chime in on this.

Standard M3 (3mm) screws are .5mm pitch.

Have you called them yet? IIRC, someone else had a motor that was missing threads on one or two of the holes. Can't remember what came of it, but things like this do happen from time to time.

Please shoot me a PM with your shipping info. We'll get a new motor shipped out with a prepaid mailer (assuming you're in the US) so you can send that motor back to us. Normally I would just send you the rebuild kit, but we haven't received the rebuild kits for the 1410 yet.

This is the 12th one we've seen like this since it was released. We've brought it to the attention of the engineers and steps have been put in place in China to ensure that it doesn't happen again. There are probably a few more out there and we're dealing with them as the come up. Sorry for the troubles, and you're right, it should have never have happened.
