Maximum Voltage for EVX-2 - 02.15.2011, 01:36 AM

Whats the Maximum Voltage for the traxxas EVX-2(waterproof), Could it handle 5s lipos or will it let the "Magic Smoke" out. The only lipos I have are
2S(1), 3s(1), 5s(1).

I'm guessing 24 volts. I've only tested 1 if I remember.

It can handle 5s, but the 2s must be hooked up to the BEC side or it will smoke. To find the BEC side: Borrow another 2s and hook it up, turn it on, then disconnect one battery. Note the amount of time it takes for the LED to go out. Repeat with the other battery. The side that goes out quicker is the BEC side. Put a piece of tape or something on the wires to mark it for future refferemce. Watch your gearing, and consider a fan when running 5s though.

I thought that was for a novak hv system?? Or are they much the same for rated voltage? With a brushed system is it the amps that's the issue or voltage spikes?

Thanks Overdriven, hoober. Would I be able to use the single 5s lipo?

I will chime in and say that I doubt it will handle 5s lipo. From my personal experience they aren't even fond of 4s. The esc expects the voltage to drop under load and it doesn't with lipo. When I ran mine on 4s if I punced it hard from a stop it would start to take off then the esc would cut out for a second and then take off again

I've run an EVX2 on 5s without issue. I only ran a couple packs, and it was with a dewalt drill motor. It was also winter so temps weren't an issue. And I've seen some threads where others have done it without issue, at least short term. Long term it isn't something I'd necessarily recommend though because I've watched them fry on 4s and 12cell NiMh with everything stock and only running on the street.

@ Panda. I have no idea about the Novak. I just know it's a funky system when it comes to different battery configurations. A pair of 2s is the easiest and safest thing for those Novak HV's, my brother-inlaw has had good luck and likes his setup that way.
