OK guys here's a tough one....I think.

My B&D cordless drill just died on me, sudden loss of power and loads of thick black smoke belching out. Motor is DOA for sure.

This is the kind of motor you can't service, I can't anyway. So I need to find a replacement for it. Found an e-store with B&D replacement parts, but my drill isn't listed. Already googled all the numbers on the can. All I know it's a Johnson Electric motor, with a 16t pinion. I think it's 540 anyway, dimension are 38x56mm.

Thought you guys might be able to help, a new drill is not in the budget right now.

When you can get a new cordless drill with batteries for ~$60 why would you even consider buying a new motor ( probably at least $20) and be stuck with old batteries. Maybe not in the budget but I know I could find a way to come up with an extra $40 if I needed the drill to do something.

The kind of drill that can be had that cheap over here, are not even worthy of drilling holes in a stick of butter. I'm looking at at least 250$ for a decent unit.

Your working with a black and decker! It doesn't get much lower than that! Sorry I had to say it. B&D's go for $30 at the local walmart

Yeah I've never really been happy with this unit at all. It would be a solid #1 on my top ten of most regrettable purchases.

Seems I might have found a local dude who may have a motor lying around. If that falls through I may just have to get a new one.

You can purchase a brand new Ryobi 18volt drill with a charger and two batteris for $100 from The Home Depot. Replacing a motor in any drill these days is just a waste of time if you ask me. One can find all kinds of online deals if you do a little research. If you do not have access to these kinds of stores make a friend with someone who can and work out a deal. And in retort to your comment about what you can get where you are located, since you don't show your location in your profile I have no idea where you are located or what you have access to in the way of battery powered handtools.

Oh yea and B&D are one of the cheapest power tools on the market these days. They are what people buy when they can not afford anything better. You get what you pay for, right? I had a Ryobi multi purpose 8 piece powertool set for about 4 or 5 years before I had to replace the cells in the batteries and the drill finally fried some kind of diode on the trigger last July after 7 years, so I trashed it and got a new one. I finally broke down and got one of those new Ryobi drill kits and it came with the charger and two Lipo battery packs for $100 on sale at The Home Depot. Anything is better than a B&D.

I'm in Denmark.

I found an online outlet with a better choice, I'm between a Hitachi 14.4v Li-ion and a Makita 18v li-ion unit.

Well the Makita has always been known to be one of the best powertool manufacturers, but they also usually come with a higher pricetag as well. Hitache has come a long way over the last ten years and also makes a pretty nice range of handheld powertools as well. I think either way you will end up with a pretty good tool.
