Krispy's Ultra LX e-Conversion - 07.08.2011, 05:12 PM

Well story goes... I bought a hyper 7 because I'd always wanted a nitro buggy, got a good one all decked out for racing second hand, ran great but be damned if it wasn't the most annoying sound and biggest headache trying to get the thing tuned... so needless to say I was reading one day and saw the e-Conversion kits... got me to thinking, and researching these forums and next thing I know I have a 2200kv nue-castle engine, a mmm and 4s 5000mah venom lipo... just need to order the motor mount and spur gear and I'll be up and running. Spent an hour or two last night taking out all the nitro unneccesaries.

If anyone has any tips for me I'd appreciate, I'd like to be set-up to go fast on asphalt but something that can take a bit of racing and bashing to. Pretty much a good all around gearing etc...

o and theres some R/C porn for ya too, put up more pics once I get the RCM motor mount and such.

Welcome to the forums, Krispy. The Hyper motor mount and 50x150 battery tray are the common items, along with a mod1 pinion of your choice - I would double check the buggy specs, though - that looks like an LX buggy rather than a Hyper 7. Don't worry...we have a motor mount for the LX series, too. I just want to make sure you get the right mount the 1st time. :)

Hey there Mike! Thanks for the reply, the guy I bought it from seemed to be a stand up guy and racer for a long time, but it never hurts to be sure... whats the easiest way to tell between an lx and the hyper? Maybe these pics will help? Pretty sure its not the original body shell, possibly an aftermarket proline shell.

So sadly now that I look online I think your right... guess I'll do my research a bit better... Is there anyway it could just be an old model hyper 7... maybe? lol

I guess the question now is how do I put this on par with a hyper 7/8...

Ok well I got it all in and working!! I bought a used 2200kv castle and MMM with a 4s 5000mah 25c lipo and turnigy accucell 6 charger for $300, picked up a robinson 15t pinion and an LX-e motor mount for $40 shipped to my door.
(Budget build stylie)

A few new holes drilled for the different spacing of the LX-e motor mount. As well the LX-e mount is shorter on the bottom by about 1/8th so spacers are needed or you can just get the other LX-e center differential support, I used some washers I had lying around. I soon had the differential in place, had to re-solder a bullet on the red motor wire, got the ESC set up to my TX and she was ready to go! Just need to get some industrial velcro for the lipo pack and ESC and its game on! Took her for a quick test run around the parking lot and holy hell... I don't know what settings this guy had on the ESC or if it resets itself, I dunno, but this thing just bites and goes... no standing on the rear wheels or anything and I haven't adjusted the Expo on my Tx... all the videos I saw of these on pavement stood it on the rear wheels... mine however just goes like stink... I know my diffs have a little heavier weight oils in them. I'm not complaining lol

O yeah and theres a noise coming from something maybe twice a second and increases in frequency just a little bit with added RPM's I don't think it would be the motor, maybe one of the dog bones? I know one has a little bit of kink to it but barely any.

Threw in some pictures of 1) my setup 2) washers under motor mount 3) new holes in chassis and my redneck counter-sink.

Looks like You removed the rear brace. Youll need to fab something up as the flex will mess you up

yeah in the process of figuring that one out lol, the way the mount is the engine is on the same side as the mounts and they interfere with each other, I inverted the rear brace and it actually lines up with the center diff top plate... just need to fabricate something for it.
