mini 8ight

I don't know if anyone is interested in this, but I got my mini 8ight on Thursday and got it up and running today. I posted this on RCTech, but thought I'd share here. My observations so far:

With electronics and battery stops removed:



1. The servo didn't like my Flysky GT3b tx/rx (the tx/rx had been working fine in another car). The servo was glitching badly. I replaced with a Tactic 2.4 tx/rx and the problem went away.

2. I was able to get a 1/10 sidewinder esc to fit in place of the Losi esc - snug but fits. I want to use this with a CC cm26 when I get the right .5 mod pinions to fit it. Since I'm using this as a parking-lot basher with tc wheels/tires, I may use the 6800 motor.



3. I opened up the battery tray a bit and was able to get my Gens Ace 2200 to fit. I removed the plastic strip on the edge of the chassis. I cut the outside parts of the battery stops and moved the front stop forward.







4. Overall, I'm very pleased with the mini-8. I was looking for something a bit bigger and heavier than my rc18b for in the parking lot, since it's bumpy in places. The m8 handles much better and doesn't bounce around or spin out as easily.

cool, i have been looking at getting one but after owning afew other losi minis im not going to be so quick to hop on this one till i know they hold up

I made this battery hold-down today out of 1/16" lexan to hold my Gens Ace 2200 in there.





I think the 2200 is a good size for this - I ran this for a good while this afternoon in the parking lot and put 1930mAh back into the battery.

I love the handling but would like a bit more top speed - so I'm planning to put the cm26-6800 in when my pinions come in for it.

I just picked up one of these yesterday. Haven't had a chance to get it outside yet as it has been raining, but I did get to have some fun in my basement. The stock esc cogs alot from a stop if you're trying to go slow, but otherwise seems pretty good. Let us know how the CM26-6800 works out for you Brian.

I got the cm26 6800 installed with a 12t pinion and 65mm on road tires. So the top speed should be the same as stock. I'll try it out when my parking lot dries out and report back.

I had a chance to test this today and it was very fast, yet controllable with the 12t pinion. I have a 1/10 sidewinder running the cm2668 so it should have no problems. When I get a chance to run a full pack through it I'll report back on temps. But I'd say this is a great setup for running on-road tires.

Unfortunately it looks like CC recently sold out of the cm2668 motor (I was thinking of buying a back-up)

Edit: I guess, looking at the numbers (and available pinions for the 1/8" shaft), my second choice right now to run this on-road would be the cm2646 on 3s - it should perform about the same as the cm2668 on 2s.

I picked one up a few weeks ago and love it. Its a great mini for the back yard or rainy days. There are a few minor issues to address, but after that, this mini rocks.

Tuning issues:
- weak servo saver
- ball cups pop off occasionally

I've always been temtped to buy a mini but I can really only afford one truck and I can't think of a better truvk to do it all than a muggy

But I see you are selling/trading your 1518 out of your Muggy for a bigger motor. What do you have planned?

Speed runs! I want to find the limit of the truck and the 1518 isn't going to cut it.
