CapPack? Do I need it? - 01.14.2012, 05:15 PM

Hey guys. The only reason I ask is because I'm getting ready to buy a BEC for my E-XXL as I have just purchased a HiTech HSR-5990TG servo. Since CC is having a sale ($25 off of $75 or more), I figured I'd pickup a MotorFan for my 1515 2.5d, and maybe a CapPack. Question is, do I *really* need it? My MarinePower 6s Lipo finally went, and I replaced it on the cheap with a Turnigy NanoTech 5000mah 6S 45-90C pack.

I don't race, and I don't do speed runs. However, I like the best performance possible from my trucks. If it truly helps, or minimizes any kind of fluke damage to the ESC, I'm all for it. But if I don't really need it, I'll pass.

What say you?

Thanks!

Jason

It isn't really gonna improve performance as such, but the esc may thank you in the long run ( reduced temps, less ripple current potentially damaging the esc ). I think it's certainly something worth running on a larger/heavier model and/or with less than stellar batts, so if they are on sale & the price isn't a real issue, go for it.

It certainly won't hurt. Like Neil said, it will further reduce ripple currents which will reduce the stress on the ESC's components. I would say it is mandatory on heavier vehicles and/or if they are geared high. I wouldn't use it to compensate for mediocre batteries though.

The only downside is that the hookup spark will be larger, which will eat away at the connectors faster.

Thanks guys. Seeing as how my truck isn't some power gobbling monster (tho it is pretty beefy), I'm going to pass on getting the CapPack for now.
