If you look on Alibaba ( international trade hub / wholesale type website ), there are hundreds of different variants- some are basic rollers, some are pre-upgraded with loads of alloy parts; the quality of the alloy is the thing to look out for as the non-HPI versions can be very iffy...
I did a ground up build with my brushless baja, and after acquiring all the aftermarket goodies I wanted I decided it was easier to just buy a rovan baja off ebay for all the screws and hingepins and miscellaneous bits.
Every piece of plastic I used off the clone baja gave me a headache. The spur gear lost a big chunk of teeth after 15 seconds. The steering posts split right up the middle. The arms basically crumbled apart. The alloy appears to be made out of butter? I deanodized a piece with drano and it disappeared. The drano ate the piece, and I know how to deano stuff.
Do yourself a favor and get a used hpi. A used, beaten and neglected hpi is better than any clone.
