Brushless rustler advice

Ok im selling my e-zilla with out the brushless system so figure i may as well put it in my rustler just a few questions what i have is a MGM 80A car controller and a fiago 9L and im guessing the 9L is to big for it (correct me if im wrong) so what motor would you recomend i get i will be runing 6 cells and want some decent speed but want run times of at the very least 10 minutes.

Secondly how will the rustler drivechain hold up i have a traxxas pro bal diff and MIP CVD's on the way and also have the aluminum idler will this be enough to cope with the power? i do have the steel top gear but it says that shouldnt be used with the idler so wich is most important.

Finally gearing any recomendations with the diffrent motors?

I think with what you have it should hold up fine. As far as motors, I would go for something like a 8S or maybe a 380C 8T or 6L. I'm sure the 380C 6L would be a great motor. Another member on the forum has that very motor on 7 and 8 cells and gets over 50mph with it and good runtimes in a Pede.

Whats trhe diffrance between the 380C 6L and 6T also are the 380C ones better than wanderer/fiago S motors

The 380c 6t is the fastest of the bunch. Most people assume the 380c 6l has more torque in a vehicle. It does on a motor to motor comparison, but once you factor in gearing, a properly geared 380c 6l has about the same torque as a 6t and maybe a little less top end.

I do not recommend the 540 motors for 6 cell applications.

The basic lehner will work well. It is a few dollars more.

The 540 L will be to long and have to much power/torque and probably weight to much. The difference between the 380C 6T and 6L is the legnth. The T would be like a S can motor and the L is obviously like a 540 L except deminsions. The 380 won't have as much torque as a 540.

If this were me choosing a motor for my Rustler for 6 cells, I'd go with a 380C 7t or 8t. Personally, I run 4s Lipo (14.8v) for loads of power and lots of runtime, and the motor is a Feigao 540 12s (kv of around 3000). Right now I am running this motor on a cheap 6cell NiMh pack in my 4wd 1/10 buggy, and with the gearing it has it isn't running badly at all!

The 6L will have more torque so you can gear higher for more top end.

so i assume Lehner mototrs are better than wanderer and fiago motors (seem to remember reading this some where) so what run time would i get with a Lehner Basic 5300 brushless motor and how much better are they that the 6S

Its not that the 540s aren't good, it's just that the 380C will spool up fast. I would personally choose the Feigao 380C over a Lehner Basic 5300.

so what runtime would i expect with a 380C 6L as looking at my 9L against the modified motor in there there is very little diffrance in the length so i think the L would fit fine

and finally what gearing would be best?

I'm running the 380c 6L in my rustler. Its all aluminum and a little heavier than the normal Rustler(I know... hard to believe, heavier than a rustler...) so I went with the 6L for more torque and am running it on a warrior 7020 that I had.

I run it on a 4200mah 11.1v Lipo... Sick I tell you. I run 6 cell so I can control it. On the Lipo, I have no idea of top speed. I cant get to top speed and keep controll.

I bought it on Mikes recomendation. Cant complain, He was right again.

The the Lipo I'm gettting close to 20 minutes. Not bad. I can't remember the gearing off the top of may head (I tryed a few.) I think I settled on 18/84, but Im not sure. I'm traveling for work right now, but Ill check it out when I get home later this week and let you know.

I'll put in a pesonal recomendatioon for the 380C 6L.

I have the 380c 8t. I like it a lot. Its light weight, torque and fast. I run it on 7.4 volts. I recommend it.
