Mamba Monster 2 stops and starts... - 04.27.2014, 08:08 PM

I just built and converted a Hot Bodies D8T. I used a Castle Mamba Monster 2 with Neu 1515 2200kv combo. The truck runs great but after about one minute it started to do a strange thing. It will be going along just fine and the truck just loses power and stops. For the next about 5 seconds neither forward nor reverse does anything then the ESC beeps like I just turned it on and it will go again for another 10-20 seconds then it will stop again.

Both the fan on the ESC never stops spinning and the steering servo works during the 5-seconds just no forward nor reverse.

I tried 2 different batteries (both are turnigy 6600mah 60C 4S batteries that were fully charged. I tried 2 different receivers (both spektrum receivers that I have used on several other cars with no issues at all).

This is just in by southern california back yard (small) so there are no range issues. It will often stop within a couple of feet from me.

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Hmm. Weird. If the ESC is re-arming then it's shutting off.

Is it possible there's a loose connection in your switch? Try switching the switch on and off a few times to try to work out any debris and make sure it is firmly in the on position.

Use an external BEC and remove red wire from esc. It's so cheap and stops a lit of funky behavior.

So a week later I finally got the BEC, Soldered it up and no green led, Nothing... It was DOA... Then I went ahead and and removed the BEC and put it back together. I tried running it in the back yard for a minute and it stops dead... REALLY!! no lights, no beeps, nothing... I can remember when Castle used to mean Quality, that is why I got the MMM2. I am very disappointed with the quality of Castle electronics.

I have not even been able to put an entire battery through the truck and I have two dead castle products. Now I am going to have to PAY to mail it to castle and probably PAY to have them fix it...

I went ahead and put one of the old mamba max ESC's on the truck and it runs great with no BEC!!!!! Basically what this tells me is the Mamba Monster Max 2 with Castle BEC combined is not as good as the old MM!!!

That's a first. I've never heard of a doa BEC.

Stuff happens though and if you've been around long enough ie 8years since the mm came out you'd know the team at castle will take care of you.
