Why do you guys choose revos over savages to convert?

I have a 3.3 revo and I understand it's a bit lighter and all but I would think that the savages would be more suitable for these crazy BL conversions as they need quite a bit less in the way of modifications to make it handle the power.... Is it because it's more fun to completely overhaul the truck?

also don't you need a very strong truck to handle all the huge air, and torque most of you undoubtedly achieve with these long long long BL motors?

just wondering as i can't seem to find any other savage buddies actively buzzing about there brushless conversions anywhere....:026:

Well...I would say the Savage is not stronger than the Revo, but maybe the same strength.

A stock Savage goes about 30, so crashing at full speed barely breaks anything. The Revo goes 40, the 3.3 will do 45+ (I have seen some break 50) so a full speed crash has alot more impact force. As MPH increases linearly, impact force increases exponentially.

So, crashing a Revo at 30, savage speed, probably wouldnt do much either. But crashing a Revo at 45, would likely tear something right off. Crashing a Savage at 45, would probably tear stuff off too.

So, its not that the Savage is stronger, it just has a perception of being stronger.

Plus, a Revo is WAAAAY better than a Savage. Suspension is a billion times better, and with a little work, it can be way stronger.

1. Comparing a 3.3 Revo to the old .21 Savage isn't fair. The 4.6 version that have been around for time now do over 40mph very easily...3 speed even more.

2. I will admit that the Revo handles better in the corners but i don't think it handles rough terrain as well...tends to not track as straight.

BUT...it just seems a little anemic next to most 1/8th scales...and you just have to spend so much more to get it ready for xl sized, 19 or 22 series motors.

Go Revo! I almost got a Savage to convert but I'm glad I got the Revo. I like the Revo better for the handling, weight, jumping characteristics, ect. Plus parts are a dime-a-dozen.

Which one you guys prefer for NITRO bashing? I'm looking for a new nitro monster truck...kinda wanted to try something besides traxxas cause that's all I've ever dealt with.

if you go to savagecentral.com they're going to beat you senseless until you say "savage is the best." go to a traxxas forum and i don't have to tell you what they're going to say.

i know quite a few people here may have both revos and savages...but i just think the savage is all round more durable. I should say though, it is more that...there are certain things I would attempt to jump off of with my savage that I would never do with my 3.3 Revo.

it's true that the revo suspension is more advanced but man the savage takes a freakin beating...only thing i've ever replaced on my 4.6 kit for the past year is air filter and one way bearing. I use it ALOT.

If you're going RTR then I would go for the Losi LST2 simply for the incl. JR XS3 Radio system, good combo of race and bashing ability + it's nice and big - true 1/8

I also think the Savage looks better in that it looks more like a real monster truck...not just the body, but the proportions - personal pref I guess and if you're going to stick to nitro...I just prefer the sound of a really big big block engine.

The savage has better diffs installed from factory.
I think the revo will handle better for more technical suspension.
They both have pros and cons.
I like the savage but never owned a revo.
I think it would come down to the amount of power you want to run.
A 22 series would destroy the diffs in a revo.

IMO, if you want a JUMPER = SAVAGE, all around basher racer = REVO. this is going by what i've heard from both owners....I agree with coolhand though, the savage has better diffs than the revo, and it would depend mostly on what you want to run, and the way you run...pros and cons....

I'd recomend the savage i've owned both and the savage was alot i mean alot less prone to damage at high speed impacts I was constantly buy a arms for the revo but thats me

"Cool": I think a lot of it is the "coolness" factor. The Revo is just plain sexy with the unique suspension, different chassis, and low profile. :)

Challenge: IMO, it is also more of a challenge to convert a Revo because of that suspension. Those shocks take up a majority of the center of the chassis which leaves limited room and options for batteries and other parts.

Parts: One major consideration for me is that the parts are available everywhere! Most of the time a LHS has the part you need in stock. Sure, I could have them could order any part, but that takes time, and I'm impatient!

As far as arms breaking: that's why I get RPMs right away. Sure, they may flex a bit too much for some people, but unless you primarily racing, it shouldn't make that much of a difference.

As far as durability, I wouldn't turn away stronger diffs. Otherwise, the Revo is quite durable. Some of it is how it is set up. If you are jumping, get stiff springs. The suspension is rather soft, but it was designed as a racing truck after all.

Why stop at a savage or revo?
I did a mgt and think it is a great conversion.
I thought about doing a lst like on the forum.
I not sure how tough the lst is but they race them as well.
Just some other thoughts to think about.

I just recently bought a Savage X and to be honest it disappointed me in quality. the steering is too loose for my preference. I have a revo with a gorilla conversion and have never worked on the steering and its still tight.

I have not run the Savage X enough to compare preformance, so i'll leave the opinions at the steering.

I have had the Revo conversion for almost two years( year and three months as a nitro and from December till now as an electric) and it still has the origional arms and axle shafts, in fact all the suspension pieces are origional and i have hit everything in my yard and local track at least twice.

In my opinion i would tell you, go Revo, because between the G-Revo and my 3.3, I haven't been able to break them

You're still using the same plastic drive shafts with a brushless conversion after nearly 2 years? What motor/esc/batt setup are you using? What about diffs?

I'm runniong a Novak HV-Max brushless system at the moment, compared to some system out there it may be weak, but it runs with the local nitro's great and it. It will flip on its lid on grass and blacktop, racing wise it has gotten a second in an a-main

I have a neighbor that has a tree with a great approach (ramp like) and i was doing backflips and flip-twists (Most were'nt pretty and very bad landings) and didn't break anything, even when i got really bold and hit the tree at full throttle and going up the tree nearly ten ft. before the flip began. When i converted my revo to electric, it added 3 pounds to the weight (9 pounds full tank nitro, to 12 pounds with batteries electric). in my opinion most trucks are close to the limit on what they can handle, weight wise, but the revo seems overbuilt. Add three pounds to convert any other truck to electric (without alumnium arms and suspension, just what it takes to convert) and i don't think it will take what my G2R can.
