18.97 turning off motor brakes - 07.28.2006, 10:40 PM

on a 18.97KW how do you turn off the brakes?
I am using mechanical brakes and don't want any motor brake.

You have to put it land,boat,and reverse off i think,i've done it before.

Edit; switch1=ON
Switch2=ON
switch3=OFF

I just tried it,seems to work fine.

Did you try it?

i went and double checked for you at the time aswell,i actually tried it when you asked and it works,maybe boats don't use brakes,i don't know.What do you mean other programming? i thought you want to switch the brakes off.

(Edit,sorry that came out wrong,sounded tetchy,gave myself a slap on the wrist already,lol)

You can try it by just flipping a switch,as far as i know that's the only way to do it,you could e-mail schulze and see what they say,they probably never thought about nitro conversions and mechanical brakes when they designed it.There's no way to run it in car mode and turn the brakes off.

Yea, I'm pretty sure boats don't use breaks. Just forward-reverse. They wouldn't really do anything except slow the prop down which reverse would do the same thing and wouldn't hurt it since its only in water and theres not 12lb's slaming into reverse (like an MT)... If you understand what I'm saying let me know, cause I kinda confused myself, I think...

That sounds about right squee.

There is another way to do it if you have a 3 channel radio with channel mixing.You have the brake servo on the 3rd channel and you mix the brake side of the throttle channel with channel 3 100%,then you turn the EPA of the brake side of the throttle channel to zero,that will give you no controller brakes.You still have EPA adjustment of the brake servo on the 3rd channel.

That's what i do on controllers which you can't switch the brakes off.It's actually better because you don't have the brake servo moving in the throttle direction since it's only mixed to the brake side of the throttle channel.

I was just thinking about the mixing thing on my way home from work. I was all excited to tell you about it but you told me first. :-)

yup definatlly the way to go. I have a 3PK gonna try it in a minute.

what I ment about probraming was in boat mode isn't the parameters of the contro9ller different than in car mode?

Yeah the channel mixing thing is cool,the ideal way to do it really,glad that worked out.That way you can keep it in car mode too,there could well be some different parameters in boat,it's a great esc,i love mine.

I do the same thing with the MGM,you can't turn the brakes off in car mode on those either.Used to use it on a TLT axled truck for rear steering,basically has 20% rear steering unless you hold a thumb button down which gives it 100% rear steering.kind of like the monster jam trucks,you can grab some rear steer when you want it.

I would assume boat mode is totally different. which is what makes a good controller different from all the others. you don't use the throtttle on a boat the same as a car for example. much less part throttle movement on a boat. Unless your walter cause he thinks the throttle is a on/off switch.LOL!
