Which motor? - 10.17.2006, 01:17 PM

Am I missing the FAQs section that highlights the good points of the different motor options?

No, we are just too lazy to make one, and we keep answering every question over and over.. LOL

But what are you planning on using it in, on how many cells and do you want to bash it or do you want to race it?

The use of motors seems to change from time to time, it's like mini-skirts, sometimes you wear them (mostly during the weekends, in combination with pink lipstick) other times you wear something totally different..

Right now the Neu motors are pretty popular if you can swing it.

For a tighter budget, the XL wanderers are popular. (and they are Pretty darn imrpressive too)

I'll be going with Li-po sticking with just 2S for now, with 3S down the road. I already run Li-po on my brushless Mini LST so I am all ready setup to for it. Mostly bashing but we race at work and I'll be building a course to race.

The Neu motors are a little expensive. I could get it but I'm going to be putting too much into this projects as is. The XL Wanderer is more the price I'm looking for. I can't seem to decode the details about it though. I like my Quark ESC on my MLST so I think I will stick with them.

How do they compare to the Mamba Max setup? Thanks

Ciao,
in my experience I just can say the less you spend the less you have,
or again, if you spend less now you'll spend much more then.

If I can give you my advice, just wait for some other times and save some
money to have a really efficient motor.

Everything I tried but Lehner (and I think this is also for Neu) goes HOT.
Yeah,m they are powerful, but not efficient motors.
Your ESC will cry a lot with them due to the temperature it will be able to reach.

You can run a 1950/8 with 20 volts for one hour of bashing, keeping it arpund 40°.
You should forget this with a feigao or a wanderer one.

Just my 2 cents,
Daniele

True, but just as an example, as we still pick on him with it every once in a while

No, you are correct I haven't mentioned the chassis. It is going to be a G2R rolling chassis from here. I don't have a Revo so it makes sense to buy the rolling kit.

That's a long run time. I would be happy with a 30min run time. Which is why I was thinking about the 8000 maxamps. Though I have hear some complaints about them. I'm willing to give them a shot. I like that they offer you single cells to build custom packs.

One problem with waiting to get the top of the line motor other then the waiting. Is that if I need to get every thing else that goes with it. A controller that can support it. Then I need batteries that can handle the draw. Before long it's a monster and your go so fast that you break things and it spends more time being fixed then driven. I'm hoping that isn't the case with the Revo and it really can handle what I hear people doing to them. Which is the whole reason I'm going 1/8th. Plus if I had all that into it it's worth more then some full size cars I've owned/own.

I'm not saying I wouldn't like to get a 1950, just if I did I would take this project in a different direction then what was planned. I would also be taking it to a level above the the other guys I race with. One I don't think they could keep up with. And what fun is that?
