a 2s1p Evo20 800mah into a 4s8p 3200mah -
11.18.2006, 03:59 PM
Guys,
I'm thinking of buying 8 2s 800mah evo20 lipos and make a 4s8p out of it inorder to have a 3200mah lipo with 16.8V that would make my buggy go crazy.
I cant buy a normal 4s pack because I want a saddle 4s pack for my buggy.
The length of the 800mah 2s1p packs is similar to the length of a 3 celled sub c packs.
The problem is that I dont know how to make a 4s8p out of 8 2s1p 800mah pack. Also, there will be lots of balancing connector( 8 balancing connectors) if I'm gonna build the packs. How can I make an adapter that would join all 8 connectors into two connectors only?
Here're some pics of the buggy:

Why do you need 4s? I have seen a vid of a kyosho zx5 do a standing backflip on 2s with a 7700mamba max setup
Work because i gotta, play because i wanna

2s is great in a a 4wd with a high rpm motor like the 7700... that's what I have in my xx4 and it's impressive. I can almost hear the belts stretching :)
All you need to do to make the packs is parallel together the small packs.
Take four of them and shrink/tape them together into a brick, and join all for of the + wires together and the - wires together. Do that again with four more of the small packs.
Now you can take these two bricks (each are now 2s4p) and either wire them as a saddle pack, either in series for a 4s4p 3200mah pack, or in parallel as a 2s8p 6400mah pack.
I would do the 2s myself... and you might not need to make it that big. You could do a 6p instead if you want a smaller lighter pack.

Yup. You can't make a 4S8P pack (32 cells) out of 8 2S1P packs(16 cells). By the way, you would only need 5 wires for the balancing plugs. You don't balance each individual cell. You balance each individual group of cells, so either way (whether it is 4S1P or 4S8P), its gonna be balanced as a 4S pack...

If you can do 2s, maxamps has saddle packs up to 5000mah, good for 100 amps constant(so the add says, but i haven't tryed them). I'm looking to get a couple for an HPI rs4mt (true electric, not a conversion) i'm building

Austin said that he can build me a 3s saddle pack.
FlightPower simply refused to do so.
If that's the case, I might just get myself a B4( 2wd being the problem) or probably ZX-5 and give it some modifications.
Though that Tamiya buggy is giving me some sleepless nights.

The high end buggies are going back to saddle packs again... the good thing is that the l/r weight balance not messed up by going lipo with saddle packs.

I once read a post in the TeamOrion forum by an official of that company who stated that Orion will not bring out lipo saddle packs, because the nature of the lipo batteries?!!
He also gave another reason that the rc electric domain will not rely on the saddle pack type chassis for long.
I guess he's comletely wrong, now.
Yokomo, Losi, Tamiya and even Kyosho's ZX-5 with an after market CF chassis components are using saddle pack based chassis.
If only FlightPower would do a special pack for me, I would not hesitate a bit from buying the TRF501X.

I have a problem with a battery on one side, I know they worked out most of the weight issues, i just don't like them. When Losi made the JRXS, it made me think i made the right decision to keep the HPI pro3. I'm looking hard at the Dark impact for the same reasons

The Dark Impact is great for the centrally located battery. One company is coming out with a carbon fiber chassis for it that splits the battery into a side by side pack. 3Racing is also making a carbon fiber chassis, but it allows you to load the battery the same way as with the stock chassis.

Maxamps will make whatever pack you want... he could do 3s or 4s in a saddle. I just bought bare cells and made my own saddle pack with the maxamps cells.
These cells works ok, but they are not an ideal size. The perfect cell would be longer and wider (and thinner) than the maxamps ones. I have an old maxamps saddle pack that is a better size than the current ones. But you can't get them anymore.
