9920/8XL and temperature - 01.08.2007, 08:28 PM

I ran my truck with 8xl and 9920 in my e-maxx for the first time. I noticed the 9920 gets hot.

What is the max temp on these 2, the motor was cooler then the 9920. So, it would be good for me to know that temps are safe, and what are not.

What is your gearing? It sounds as if your under geared since the esc is hot.

I wouldnt let the esc get any hotter than 150F and as for the motor 160-180F is the max temp id ever want for a combo.

The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

If the ESC is hotter than the motor, then it would be overgeared if anything. If the motor were hotter, that would be undergeared.
Do you have a temp. gun? They work very well for these types of measurements.

66/20 is what I run. Is that over gearing it? I'm using 2 7-cell packs.

I don't have a temp gun yet, but I think I will get one.

Visit www.tempgun.com

I have this one. It works great. Seems to match temps with my buddy's RAYTEK gun. $39.00 USD.

Thanks, I just bought this one before you post: PE-1 Temp Gun

I figured I wanted something small.

The small ones are much easier to tote around at the track. Especially if you run nitro because your toting fuel, starter, temp gun, tools, etc.

Electric is so much easier to run!
