New test lightning+1930+4S 4900 - 01.14.2007, 11:39 AM

Hallo boys today i have test my lightning, with new pack of flightpower 4S1P 4900
20C continuos 30C average and 50C burst.
The motor is 1930/8, the esc is MMax with UBEC, the gearing is 12/44.
This battery is fantastic, the punch is very strong, my runtimes is 15 minute, run on street at full trottle, and continous acceleration and brake.
The temperature on battery is 40C°, Esc 40/45C°, the problem is motor,90C°!!!
The 1930 pulls 120 ampere, 1600 watt, but seem too little for stadium truck?
I need a more torque? (1940) or my gearing is too long?
The car speed is 75/80 Kmh, wheeling at full trottle.
Plese explain me because my motor is too hot.
Thanks very much

Hmm, that is is a pretty small motor, if you'd want real power a 1950 6T would be the answer, or you could try a 1940 7/8t.

90C for that motor is HOT! Do you have a video of your lightning?

The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

How about installing a RC-Monster hetasink and a cooling fan?

Instead of buying another motor, think about a way to keep your current motor cool.

80kmh/50mph is quite impressive from a small motor and only 4s.

Even though, capt, 90C is really hot, a rcm heatsink and a fan would only bring him down 10C at most, his motor is too small for his application, and those batteries are giving it alot of juice.

The motor is supposed to be at danger when it reaches 100c(150c internally).

I would not worry so much. Use a smaller gearing, heatsink and a cooling fan..really, not THAT scary..:)

Also, Virusss, if you have the regular can, you can change the winding of the motor. If its a 8 turn motor, it might be possible to make it 12-14turn motor.

Thats only 10C off its max operating temp, not very scary, BUT, it will not be as efficient at those temps, he could just run a fan and heatsink, but a bigger motor would be alot better!

BTW ; Whats up with your sig capt? Whats the problem with your grandark? Maybe we can help! :)

You are right, but is it really worth it to spend another $250 just to bring heat down?

Yes capt i have a regular motor, but for 4s i suppose 2600 Kv is ok, 2600*14.8=38480 Rpm, the gearin is the smallest i have my smallest pinion is 12 and the kyosho spur is 44.
I have a 1940/8, but 1960 Kv is not too slow for 4S???
1960*14.8= 29000 Rpm

I run a 1950 7T on 4s which is 1867x14.8=27631 .. I havent acutally ran my lightning yet, but when i ran this motor on 14 cells it was acutally fast, and it didnt get hot, barely warm.

He could possibly sell his current motor and buy a 1940/50..

Its all up to viruss, but, if it were me id spend that extra money to have it run right, if its anything that ticks me off when running, is high Temperatures.

Okay then, I thought you did not have a larger motor at hand. Switch to the bigger, then.

You can gear higher with the 1940, Virusss.
