In the midst of my agony over numerous busted controllers while trying to convert my 1/8 last year, I bought a mini inferno ST to try my luck. The rational behind this is that since this is smaller & there are proven systems that work in this platform, I should not need to fear the steep learning curve & expensive school fees.
How wrong was I with this naive assumption.:007: Nothing shold be taken for granted. My system :
1) BPP wraith motor
2) Quark 33A car controller
3) Hyperion 3S
4) 14T pinion then dropped tp 13T pinion
5) 3racing mini inferno wheels (killed the original ST wheels)
6) some upgrade to the center slipper - MIP
Anyway, I am still facing overheating problems even with a fan installed:035:. So I decided to take some drastic action and installed a schulze 18.61 esc with UBEC (the 18.61 does not have BEC). Take that ! I hope this works. I will bring this out to the track for some testing but I'm still pretty afraid I'll fry yet another esc. :036:
Nice car Joe.
What kv is the Wraith motor you are using?
I have burnt up 2 Quark 33a controllers with my Dynamite C4 motor. It is rated at 9200kv.
I sent my whole truck (RC 18T) to Sky & Technology to have them check it out and see if I had everything connected propperly. When they called me back, there were no issues with the way everything was installed but they told me that the C4 motor has too high of a kv for that controller just to be bashing the truck around at low speeds. "If you do just high speed runs, then you shouldn't have any problems". They recomended a kv of under 7000 for the 33a.
Let me know how that 18.61 works out for you cause I may upgrade as well.
Btw. Quark replaced both controllers for FREE! Great customer service!

The Quark is quite sturdy in my testing, however, the Wraith motor pulls a lot of amps and is also a little small for a mini inferno. I'd reccomend going for a bigger motor in that setup, since i don't believe the controller is the problem.
I am running the Wraith in my Mini Inferno with a Mamba 25 and a 12t or 13t (can't remember at the moment but I think it is the 13t) pinion and no fans with no problems, but I am only using 2s.
For 3s the AON 4900 would work without melting the Quark 33 amp. This is a popular setup for the Mini Inferno.
I'm running a Mamaba 25 and a Feigao 200 12L on 2s lipo in my mini ST. The motor and ESC get a littel toasty after a while but I'm pretty happy with it.
Surely the 18.61 will do well for you and not even break a sweat.
