Sprong??? - 03.30.2007, 05:58 PM

I heard a rumor some time back that there was going to be a fresh production run on the sprong. Anyone know anything? Or did that turn out to be just a rumor?

it replaces the spring on the spur gear slipper clutch. But uses a rubber like ring instead of a spring to give even pressure and eleimate the spur wobble.

I've been wanting to get one of those, but they dissapeared from the site when I went to order it. I hope they do make some more, I can't get the spur/pinion mesh right, because the wobble cause it to change as the gears turn.

What about using the revo spring? It's simple two concave washers placed outer edge to outer edgel. I know it's not the same, but the spur on that does not wobble.

Hmm, maybe I'll look for some revo springs.
The wobbly spur doesn't seem do be causing any real problems, but I just don't like.

Disclaimer: I've never tried the Revo springs. I just figured it worked on the Revo so why not the emaxx. The Revo spur doesn't wobble.

One of the reasons for the wobble with the stock spring is that the ID of the spring is bigger than the shaft and it's difficult to get it centered when tightening it down. It ends up being off-center so there is more tension on one side. I tried using a little heatshrink on the shaft so the spring is centered and it did help, just not enough. I think the heatshrink "gives" too much. Another reason for the wobble IMO is the fact that the top and bottom of the spring is not completely flat.

I've heard the MGT spring is stiff, so it works better, and it helps the wobble.

I saw that. He started it at $60 for the first day or 2. Than dropped it to $50. Still way to much. But I guess if someone wants it bad enough.

I was thinking about trying 2 of these back to back in place or where the spring is supposed to be.

www.mcmaster.com SEARCH: 91195A105

Stainless steel washer with Silicon Rubber bonded to it. Not sure if A60 Durometer is soft enough though. The silicon rubber is good for up to 500 degrees F so it should be able to withstand the heat.

What do you guys think?

I dunno. I'm holding out for Dave to make another run of the Sprong though...He said he was gonna, but I dunno. I don't even have a E-Maxx tranny anymore and I want a Sprong. :p
