Personally id go with the quark 125, great CS, and it can run a 4 poler if you ever need to.
The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

Why dont you just go with a MambaMax?
The cheapest, and most durable.
The name is Alawi. You can call me Al.
Nice to meet you!

If you can deal with the 5s limitation, abrupt brake in reverse, and willing to add heatsinks/fans, then the Quark will work well. Like Sylvester said, it will run 4 pole motors. Actually, it will run even higher pole inrunner and outrunner motors - you just have to read the directions for which setting to pick.

IMO, the reverse brake thing is not too much of a big deal since most people don't go very fast in reverse. The brake IS there, you just have to have VERY fine throttle control. It's better if you are using exponential throttle.
It is kinda annoying that there is not ONE ESC that has all the following features:
- Fair price
- Works with all motors
- Programmable via USB PC (and in MAC, Linux, and Windoze).
- Stays cool
- Has high voltage and current capability
It's always a matter of figuring out what you are willing to give up to get other features...

Go with the Mamba Max. You won't be disappointed I think. I like the programming. Its about as easy as it gets. I'm gonna be running the same thing in my Evo V3.3. Just gotta send the MM off to Castle...

I can't recall who ATM, but someone here has been having issues with the 7XL and the MM. It seems to work better when geared kinda low, so I wonder if the current requirements of the 7XL are getting close to the MM limits?

Brian, that was Hippie. It was in his 1/8th buggy. I actually bought that ESC from him for my Evo V3.3. I should be able to gear it low enough, especially with the 2 speed still intact.

I'm running a 7XL and mamba max and its a nice setup, mine is a 12 pound G2R with 8k 5s lipo's and has no shortcommings in power. my current gearing is 13/40 with a slipperential and stock diffs (for the moment) and the esc gets hot, but its getting warmer and needs a fan, but regardless of what i do to it it will not thermal. One question though (hijack alert;) ) the motor gets hot on this gearing and setup, is it the 5s lipo or possibly the gearing?
Work because i gotta, play because i wanna
People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise
