Want to make a unique BL truggy. Need Ideas.

First off I want to say that, whatever I end up doing, I want a 3 speed transmission in it. Which basically means i will be using a Savage 3sp trans.

I'm going to start a new on this one, as of now i've got nothing in terms of equipment. However I do have ideas. But i'll start w/ questions (assume cost is no factor):

What truggy should I get? I've been in the Maxx world for all my time, and now I think it is time to get informed on truggies. What I am looking for is a truck that will somehow accomodate a 3sp trans, two 5S3P lipo packs in series making a 37 volt 12000mah powersource, 40160 esc, and large (undecided) lehner motor. This truggy needs to be BIG, DURABLE, good handler, w/ a flat and "BL conversion friendly" chassis.

Which Lehner should i purchase rated for 37 volts?

I've also been seeing a lot of talk about heatsinks. Anyone know about water-cooled systems? I would definatley need some sort of heat system for my 40160, and maybe even my batteries.

It actually does not have to be a truggy. Just something to fit all these electronics and 3 speed transmissions in. I'm thinking a Ofna titan, upgraded with DUH engineering titanium parts. Than doing some serious modding to get the savage trans in there. But the titan's avaliability seems very limited, so I'm still open to any suggestions.

what about the xtm xlb looks pretty big and once you get rid of the nitro stuff there is plenty of real estate, just a thought

I don't know why you are stuck on a 3 speed tranny... especially with the high voltage?

If I had a 40.160 and a 10s 12kmah...... :) I would do a HPI Baja project. :D

For a truggy/buggy... I would say the XTM Mammoth or XLB fitted with your 3 sp tranny.

Baja is way too big for me. I need something that I can fit in my real car, not something my real car can fit in.

I like the 3 speed because it allows me to gear taller between the spur and pinion...plus its automatic which makes it sick. Basically I will get more top speed for less amps with a three speed. 1 and 2 speed trans are good for stop and go type driving, which is what the application calls for most of the time in RC, however I will be driving this RC "freeway style," going at a constant velocity most of the time with little brakes/reversing.

Personally, I wouldn't go with the Savage tranny. But either way, go with the Lighting GTX2. Its LSP based and I can give you a rundown of all the hopups that are needed, wanted, etc. It will take anything you can through at it. Personally, I would go with the GTX2 with a Lehner 2230.

Do you know how heavy the truck is going to be with this setup? I know there will be power to spare but it will be one of the porkiest truggies ever.

30x 4000mah lipo cells... that is 7.5 lbs of battery... :eek: plus a huge esc and tranny , etc... just a thought.

But it could be really cool and like you wanted... unique. We need pics if you do this. ;)

I think the GTX2 is pretty nice, Coolhandcountry did one with 12s limn, turned out nicely!

you could always get a truggy frt and rear end and your 3 spd and make a chassis around your parts

the traxxas post you speak of wasn't mine, though I wouldn't mind going 90mph.

oh just checking, but i think you could build it, i would get the parts i mentioned above and either have ext. welded on or make the chassis bigger to work with the equipment, as for the tech stuff i am new to this and dont know much about that high end equip, keep this up to date when you get going on it

I believe the Genesis has a 3speed tranny and it's a big truck for a big setup.

good idea with the cen, may be a easy convert

the CEN is indeed a three speed, however the clutch bell (essentially the pinion gear of a nitro motor) has 3 different gears attached to it. This, I believe, is unable to be duplicated for electric pinion gears, or at least I've never seen it done.
