Going from E-Maxx to Revo, keeping investment (LiPo) - 04.12.2007, 02:57 PM

I need some advice, since I first saw a E-Revo conversion I have been hocked... I currently run an E-Maxx with Hv-Maxx (4400) motor and MaxAmps 2S2P 8000mAh LiPo.

Now if I were to build myself (and possibly Swedens first) E-Revo would it be possible to use the same LiPos as in my E-Maxx and get a decent setup ?
It will be mainly used for bashing and playing around, but a race once in a while might also happen. I'd like to keep similiar runtimes to what I get from the E-Maxx now if possible.

I will probably run a 7XL or 8XL with the Mamba Maxx and hook up the MaxAmp LiPos in serial to get a 4S 8000 pack.
My main concern is where to put the LiPo's on the truck.
AFAIK I got two options:
1, If I were to go with stock Revo tranny I would need to place both packs on one side of the truck would all that weight ruin the handling of the truck ?
Can one pack somehow be placed on the motor side of the truck ?

2, By using the E-Maxx tranny I could place one pack on each side similar to the E-Maxx but that would mean a higher COG.

What would you say it best and why ?

Well, I have done both. I had 2 different versions that used the E-Maxx transimission, and it was nice, but I opted for the Revo 2 speed with center diff and mechanical brakes. I have yet to run it since my MM needs to be sent in, but it should actually be pretty balanced. More-so than you would think.

Are you actually keeping the autoshift tranny then ?

Can I use a center diff and have electrical brakes and reverse ?

Yea, I'm keeping the 2 speed and all. The tranny is setup just like it would be for a nitro. Yea, you can have the center diff and reverse, but you have to lock it into second gear. Center diff and the nitro reverse aren't possible, so reverse will have to come in the form of the motor, obviously. So basically its either 2 speed with mechanical brakes, or locked into 2nd with motor brakes and reverse.

Thanks for your help, I will wait and look forward see what your experience will be like.

Do you actually plan on running the same batts as me (2x MaxAmps 2S2P 8Ah) wired in serial ? Do you have any pics on battery holder / placement ?

Alright. I'll let you know as soon as I run it. I still have to send the ESC off, but CC shouldn't take to long. I actually plan on running my TrueRC 3S2P 8000mah pack for testing, and then if it does good, I'm gonna get some TrueRC 2S2P 8000mah packs to run 4S. You can look in my thread for the pictures. It's titled 'Evo V3.3'.
