i know its been asked before and i just need a straight answer will the velioneon sytem work in the e-maxx or is its just like the mamba (only the esc will work) i really do like my titans and never had a problem with them! I suspect that my emaxx (even though running hot ass hell-summer) is going way over the 35+ on the box ive lightetend it down to 10.8 pounds (stock plastic and Ti. ) i dont have a radar but i've beaten many nitro road cars before so speed (unless ive got a one off 7-cell maxx) is not a problem but i do want more runtime i get about 18 mins on first gear and maybe 12 on second ad that STRECHING it ! Since brushless is more efficient my guess would be that ill get maybe 20% more runtime due to less weight and more effiecy and maybe even higher top speed......Correct me if im wrong but dont flame me! BUT THIS THING FLIES ON GOOD 7 CELL packs! anyone got a radar or gps run on the stock titans with 7 cells (gp3300 or better)?
I don't know about this. Your perception of what is fast is probably limited to what you have experienced. What I thought was fast two years ago, wouldn't even come close to what I'm running now.
Since no one has the Velineon yet, no one has been able to do any experimenting; but, according to specs, the Traxxas system can only do 3S. Most here are running 4S lipo (or its nimh equivalent) in their Maxxes.
I would be very hard pressed to believe that a Maxx running on 7 cells would be anything stellar. 7 cells is only a bit above 2S lipo. I'd consider that to be way underpowered. I have a truck that goes around 10lbs in bashing form and I run 5S lipo (equivalent to about 15 or 16 nimh cells) in it to get REAL performance. At least 12 cells is needed to comfortably do a consistant 30+ mph.
If you want to put something into your Maxx, get something that will do at least 4S lipo or 12 cells.
your probably right but im overgeard due to larger tires and thats the reason for the hot motors and the extra speed but when those batteries are fresh off the charger im one happy customer......(e-maxx 14 cells) i should have stated that but i think everyone here knows what i meant when i said 7 cell and emaxx in the same sentence. My wheelie bar cant stop it from flipping (on road)! anyone done a gps test or radar?
ouch imagine an emaxx on only 7 cells talk about slow....... and theres a way to do it too traxxas sells a jumper that lets you use one batterypack on the evx.........BUT PLEASE no one do this to themselves you might start foaming from the mouth and catch a attack when you realize how slow it really is....LOL they did that so kids can use daddy's e-maxx :027: heres a link to it http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXPYB3&P=7
I knew what you meant by 7 cells, but Aangel is a single pack type of guy so needs a bit of help when talking e-maxx. :p
14 cell (good cells) e-maxxes are pretty quick, but mine still couldn't keep up with the 12 cell brushless maxx's at racing. Even when I put 20t pinions on (18t stock) I would still lose a few metres buy the end of the straight and hard accelerating out of corners wasn't even close. Also I think it kills the titans a fair bit quicker than 12 cells, but they are cheap to replace.
I don't think the Velineon (esc) would be very good in a maxx if your want it to be faster that a 14 cell e-maxx, since it can only do 3s lipo, and 4s or 12 cell nimh is usually the minimum most people here would run in a maxx sized vehicle.
The motor will be too small to push an e-maxx around quickly. It won't have enough torque so it will be struggling all the time, meaning more current draw and a lot of heat. Using low voltage and a small motor I think will probably make runtime worse if you gear it for the same speed as your titans on 14 cells. Sorry if that's not the answer you wanted to hear.
Maybe a MM and a 9xl on 14 cells would be good. With stock gearing it should be about the same speed as 14 cells on titans, but with better runtimes and more torque. You should be able to gear up a bit for more speed, but it could start to affect temps and runtime. Maybe even a 10xl if runtime is more important than speed.
I don't think it would work, the esc is rated for 3s or 10 cells (RC Car Action says it will handle a max of 12.6volts, max charge of 3s pack). You would need a high kv motor to make it possible, 6 or 7xl or possibly 8l, to get the kv you need on 3s. It won't be efficient either, all these motors run extremely hot in a Maxx. The only possible option for any efficiency is a 2600 kv approxament Neu motor, we are not sure if the velineon can do a Neu because they are different from other multi-poles
Work because i gotta, play because i wanna
People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise
patrick you've hit the nail with the hammer. What you said makes sense the voltage wont be high enough.... unless they make a totally different system for an e-maxx (i highly doubt this but they did make it for rustler/pedes) ill probably try a 8xl according to what you said gives me a choice with a little gearing to speed up or torque up right now the torque is just too much ill probalbly go flm chassis too to tone done the wheelies. My maxx spends alot of time on its back.....but that also brings up another question. Whats the weight of the stock plastic chassis, braces and rear center shaft compared to the Flm chassis kit together (replacing the same parts as the kit).....
The only thing stopping me now is an update on the e-maxx from traxxas!!! or better yet A E-Revo ( but for some odd reason i think they have something up their sleeve just dont know if it will be brushless at this point)the velenion system is just not capable... maybe a 12 turn dual titan setup? so now we all wait....or BUild our own :027:
I emailed Traxxas about the Velineon is an e-maxx and this was their reply:

To my knowledge it will not. I am sure somebody will try once the system is available but without a lot of experimentation and modification, I think their success will be limited.
