the CC BEC. i purchased one and like the size and the adjustablity. but why does castle want me to buy another castle link to adjust it?

I just saw this myself tonight when searching for a UBEC.

I thought from reading the description of their site:

that you could just use the castle link controller for the Mamba 25 ESC's with this unit as well. What do you mean when you day "another" castle link?

Have you tried it at all yet? What do you think.

I like the sounds of the flexibility it offers - and since I don't use more than 6S it would be fine for me.

The one you bought is just a regular UBEC - the one made by Catle Creations claims to have an adjustable output voltage if programmed using the CastleLink USB cable.

I wonder if Mike will start to carry this?

I can think of multiple reasons to use a variable output voltage. Use one BEC to drive the receiver and servos, and have a second variable BEC to control the fans on a setup - if you need a little more cooling you just crank up the fan speed by raising the output voltage on the fan BEC........

do you know why i have to buy another castle link to adjust it. i already have one as it came with my MM ESC, so why cant castle just sell the little adaptor to plig into the receiver wire?

The MM has the USB interface built into the controller already - the cable they give you is just a straight through USB connector.

The other shrink wrapped Castle ESC don't have the USB connector built in - you have to access it via the receiver plug.

I happen to have a CasteLink USB programmer from my Mamba25 ESC and it's got (probably what is built-in to the MM) the hardware to convert from a USB signal to be able to talk to the esc/bec via the receiver cable.

Probably an extra expense for those that only have the MM. But for the plane and heli guys who have the other Castle ESCs, they most likely already have the CastleLink USB controller.

I can se if you just need 1 BEC, that $25 for the BEC and $25 for the CastleLink is not justifyable. But if you are going to buy 4 or 5 BECs in the long the price even itself out.

i might ask some of my heli buggys if they have one and dont mind letting me borrow it. i know this, for me atleast, will be a set it and forget it type of thing until i go to lipo

You know, you can adjust most (if not all) of the UBECs you buy - like the Koolflight. It just takes a couple of component changes, and as long as you don't deviate more than about 1v from the default setting...

C'mon Brian, you know it's so much easier to change software than it is to change hardware!

I picked up the CC BEC on Monday, it was the first one the LHS I work at got in, and at that time the warehouse didn't have any. So far all I've done is adjust the output voltage to 6.3v. Today I hope to be trying it out on 4s.
