Evader BX - Going brushless

Heya guys, I'm brand spankin' new to the hobby. I got a Evader BX a couple months ago, and now I'm definately ready for more zip. After reading around I decided to go brushless, so that's lead me here. Currently the Evader is completely stock, running with generic 1500 batteries and charger.

At first I was considering a Novak Super Sport System since they can be found for just under $200, but from things I've read people don't seem to be all that happy with it.

Now I'm leaning more towards Lehner Basic 3100, 4200, or 5300, or Feigao 540 6s, or 8s. After that I'm not sure where to head in the form of a controller, I was thinking the Warrior 7108.

I'm wanting to try and get a system together that could maybe at least keep up with nitros. I don't do any racing, I'm not even sure if there is any racing in the area, but I've heard a few nitros in the neighborhood. Thing is I need to do this as cheap as possible. So what I need is help picking a good system that runs well for as little as possible. I'm completely clueless on gearing so I'll need help with that as well. I'll also need to decide which way to go on batteries. It'll probably take a few months to get this set up.

I am new to this myself and am upgrading my losi xxxt to brushless. I know your car is a buggy, but the setup that I am getting is the Lehner 4200 and MGM 80. I am not sure about the Warrior, you'll need to ask Mike about that.

If you want cheap then go the novak (no exp with it though) as you get the motor and esc together or the feigao (again no exp just looking at prices).

As for batteries, I read that you can get matched and zapped cells for racing or standard cells (unmatched) - this is probably the best choice for bashing (i.e. running about the neighbourhood). You can get your batteries off Mike or elsewhere (www.maxamps.com). GP3300's

Anyway, I have found that just reading forums like this and taking time to speak to mike and others really helpful in deciding what to get. Hope that helps :)

Well, either of the motors you mentioned will work fine. The "best" will depend on the cell count. A 1/10 buggy is pretty easy to make fast (another member has been over 60mph in a traxxas bandit buggy using 7 or 8 cells). The 7018 warrior would need a re eiver pack if you use less than 8 cells, so the MGM is usually the choice for the smaller vehicles.
The Novak system isn't bad at all, and on 7 cells in a small buggy would keep up with the nitros pretty well. The new ones are also compatible with brushed motors and they are releasing a couple newer, faster systems as well, so I wouldn't write the Novak off completely. The Novak is the cheapest system out there and would work quite well in the small 1/10 buggy. Of course, the MGM/Lehner combo could outperform the Novak, but if you want to balance price and performance, the Novak should still be a consideration.

Ok... So I'll put the Novak back on the table as a possibility, the price is definately appealing. I just don't want to turn around after a couple months wanting more. Of course I know there will always be more... but I want to do what I can right the first time so I don't spend any more $$ than I have to.

So Right now is seems to be between the Novak Super Sport and an MGM 80 and a Feigao 540 8s (or if I'm feeling particularly thrifty, a Lehner basic 4200) - and a 6 to 8 cell set-up

The advantage of the non-Novak system is that when you thirst for more power, you can simply add cells. Just some more food for thought! :)

Go with the novak. I find that this motor paired with 7 gp3300s is the limit for the evaders (stock). I've ran my novak in my evader st for about 6-8 incomplete runs in a row now, all because of braking parts, and parts coming loose. And no, I'm not a bad driver. However my evader is 3.5 years old and I usually use masher 2k tires that put the car under a lot of stress. Anyhow, your 1500 mah batteries will be the limiting factor if you buy any brushless motor. Get gp3300s. (Night and day difference between the gp3300s and my 1500mah nicds).

i do not agree. i have a maba max running a feigeo 380 6t on a 3s high discarge lipo maxamps 8000hv and my ubgaded tranny handles it fine with the proper slipper adjustment. my tranny upgrades include:
aluminum idler, associated b2 diff. make sure u get the rings and the right size bearing for it., carbide diff balls and thrust balls, and a rear towblock brace is also a must as this setup is hard on any drive train. but anyways my car flys and i have no tranny issues but never run the slipper to tight or u will strip the diff gear like right now. biggest mistake made my brushless newbies

Batteries will definately allow you to maximize any system you decide on. 1500s simply won't do a brushless system justice!

mike, what would you recommend for a losi xxx bk? i am looking for something to bash, run up and down the mall parkinglot, and maybe race, MAYBE (if they let me). of course before i buy it i will have to find out, but i was originally thinking lehner 5300 and warrior 7018 but cant run a reciever back because i have absolutely no room. mgm 80? also what about the novak? would that offer enough power? i dont wanna be working on it all the time, so would the 5300 be to much? about how fast would the novak push it, i know it would depend on the gearing but with a neutral gearing how fast would it go?

The Novak would make it go pretty well, hi 30's to low 40's probably. The xxx transmissions don't seem to have a problem with the novak system.

The MGM 80 is a great choice for lower cell counts(6-12). The 4200 would be my motor choice for dual purpose duty. The 5300 is faster, though. The Losi diffs will need frequent maintenance (even with brushed motors, they need frequent maintenance). I like the Associated trucks myself-their diffs are far superior.

im gonna try and get a bk2 diff for it asap. but what class would a brushless setup run it??
