09.14.2007, 08:24 PM
i just picked up a jammin crt.5 (used and already converted) and will be running it on the mm and 2s lipo, and was wondering if the new traxxas brushless motor would be a good choice, thanks for the help

I was looking at that same car as well over there. The Velineon heats up a lot in a 2wd st. In a 4wd 1/12 truggy, it will overheat even faster. It is just not big enough of a motor to run in it. If you can swing, try to get a 3s lipo pack. It will make motor choices a lot easier, and the system will run cooler. If you can get a 3s pack, the Feigao 10L motor has been working well for many people. PM Cememtary or hopefully he'll see this topic, since he is one of the main people I know of running this motor.

What battery do you have. If it is big enough capacitity and c rating you could run a 7l or 8l motor. I run a 10l on 4s lipo and it rocks. I have that setup in my LS10 now and it works great in that too. I have a MM and a UBEC to run the 4s. Good temps and it runs great. I will be running a 9l on 3s in the crt.5. I may try the 7l on 3s, geared way low and see how the temps are compared to the 9l and 10l.

Yep, 540 l can motors. For 7.4 you need a higher kv, like a 7l or a 6l, not sure how hot it will run though. If I were you I would buy another 7.4 5k pack and run a 10l or 12l and have a very cool running, powerful setup. My 10l on 4s is a beast and I get around 20-25mins on a 4000 4s maxamps lipo. It will make the crt.5 a little heavier, but the truck is already heavy and solid in my opinion.

I have compared 3s to 4s systems in the same truck, both geared to do the same top speed. I found that the 10l running 4s was much better than the 10l running 3s. It is spinning around 36k on 4s versus 27k on 3s. Plus I was able to run a 14tooth pinion rather than a 20 tooth pinion. On 4s it felt like a comletely different system, more power, cooler running, and better driveability. If you have 2 packs, try the 10l, you will love it. I promise!!!

Wow! I just switched to your setup in my CRT.5EXT or shall we call it the CRT 1.0 . I have completed it tonight and have not had time to test it yet and the bash is tomorrow! I think the only thing that will hold me back is my driving!....

You will love it, especially the temps. Plus the drivability is much better.
