Questions about Revo G2R and 6s Lipo. - 10.01.2007, 03:08 AM

Hey, I've been on a break for this hobby about six months but now it is about time to start again... Originally I was waiting Mamba Monster Max, but It never arrived...

So, I have Revo with G2R with Singlespeed conversion and I have a few questions. I've been thinking to use 6s on Revo, Esc is going to be MGM and motor Lehner 1950/x or Neu 1515 x. But I cant deside whitch one and with how many windings. Is there going to be heat issues running 6s, or is 4s more sensible option? Another question is about gearing, is there going to be problems if the motors kv is 1200 or less? So can I find right pinion and spur so low kv motor that speed is ok. It woud be awesome if somebody could give me some advices...

Read the sticky in the BL section, which should explain things KV wise;

I would take the Neu over the 1950; 1950 has got poor threads for mounting (too thin) the delivery time of the 1950 is ~2 months, and the 1515 has more power and seems to run more efficient. (and it's nicer build) since your controller is an MGM (i assume you need to buy that too?, you do need a newer type of software in order to work correct with the Neu motors, since this is a 4 poler) nothing is stopping you to get more bang for the buck and go with neu.

I don't think that Lehners delivery time is so long from Germany to Finland. All I have at this point is rolling Revo. So I have to buy all electronics to it. I think I'll go with Neu because it seems to be smoother what I've read. Mike seems to be out of stock with Neu's so I quess I have to wait... So if I go with 1515/2.5D it gives at 4s 28560 rpm and with 6s 42280 rpm. Neu 1515/1y gives with 4s 36960 rpm and with 6s 55440 rpm, right? Hard to pic right one. Have anyone notised heat issues with Neu motors when increasing voltage? Is there anyone who drives Revo/Neu combination with 6s?

With 4s you can reach 80km/h with ease btw. (good motor/good cells)

If you go 5S it's more than enough power. 6S is overkill in my opinion. Nice to show off, but useless on the track. 5S is a nice in betweener. with good cells (such as flightpower 5000, or any enerland based pack for that matter) gives you a good 17.5V+@110A load.

Oh, 80 km/h is enough. But I was thinking that I could lose some weight using 5000 mAh cells insted of 8000, because those are 3s1p and 8000 mAh pacs are 3s2p. And 6 cells that I could get lower kv motor so I could increase runtime. I have experience only 1/18 brushless motors so I'm not sure how much lower kv and higher voltage gives runtime with truck this big. I calculated with Maxamps pacs that if I run 2 x 3s 5000mAh pacs in series vs. 2 x 2s 8000mAh pacs in series I win 100 grams. Only a though...

I am using the Neu 1515/2.5D on 8S a123s which is roughly equivalent to 6S lipo and the motor is not bothered at all. Also this is a common combo for the Trex 600 heli and is considered a great 6S setup.
