is my lipo still salvagable? - 10.08.2007, 01:35 AM

hey guys i was trying to repair my lipo (i had a loose connection) so i took off the tape that was covering the circuit board (or whatever it is that the red and black wire go to) and i guess the lipo didnt like it too much... thing started hissing at me and smoke came out! so i ran outside and threw it... lol at least it didnt blow up! i charged it prior to doing this so it had a FULL pack ready to go up in flames!

i am going to admit that i am quite upset that i didnt get a video of me running outside screaming like a little girl but maybe next time!

here are some pics of the damage

now that im thinking about it... i do have an old team orion that puffed quite nicely.

its ALOT more puffed now... but its just sitting in my room so i really should do something spectacular with it

thanks!

Were you screaming because your battery was going up in smoke or you saw the good money going up in smoke?

You might not have a video but could you give us an audio file with you screaming like a little girl?

haha combination of both!

next time ill be sure to record myself when trying to fix a lipo!!

and i know i didnt cut the lipo because there were 2 layers to cut through and i barely cut through layer one. and yes i did short something...

so what would you guys like to see done to my other puffed lipo?

shoot it with a BB gun?
put it through 52V of nonstop wall power (if i do this im not gonna be using my wall plugs! lol)
light it on fire?

lmk and soon you will see a video of it in action!

What charger are you using?

That looks pretty nice! Was it on fire in your hands?

You must have cut into one of the cells for it to do that. Either that, or you accidentally shorted something.

And yes, please do post an audio file of you screaming like a little girl.

lol well man my wall sucks! after i charge my packs on my 1210i it sais how many volts are going through it but if i take off the batts it shows 52V so i figured that meant the wall puts out 52V lol...

anyways if i do it i will find a vacant parking lot and do it there.

That really sux's at least you didn't get hurt! A lesson learn don't fool around with Lipo's especially if you just charged them.

Your charger does that because it is momentarily trying to drive a constant current through an open circuit (when you remove the batts), which causes the voltage to spike. Don't forget, the charger is actually running off 12v input and is using an internal switching power supply to boost that 12v to whatever it needs to charge the attached pack.

I vote for BB gun just make sure you zoom the camera right in,there's already a vid on youtube of someone applying 220V to one (in what looks like a school fume cabinet) best lipo fire I've seen, but I've never seen one shot.

Make sure to take good audio of you screaming like a girl when you do it.

Is a BB gun the biggest gun you have to shoot it with? If so after we see your "screaming BB gun romping" video I have a puffed one lying around some where. Maybe I can talk my boss into letting me shoot it at work with a 50 cal. Cross you fingers.

Good Luck T-Maxx.
