Lehner 1950 end cap help!!! - 10.10.2007, 07:38 AM

I need an end cap for a Lehner 1950. The part the screws onto the motor and has screw holes for mounting it to the transmision plate. I think its called an end cap. Any ways I think the threads where stripped or almost gone before I bought it. Does any of you have one I can buy? Or does anyone know a fix I can do for it? 3\4 of the threads are gone on the cap. The threads on the inside of the motor are fine. I can't get it tight again. It was one heck of a jump though. I landed it but the threads just could not hold the weight of the motor.

That endbell cap would be great. I will order one after I get my endbell fixed.

OK. I am not getting a big response here. Hyperus had a thought. Does any one have a blown Lehner Motor lying around you don't need anymore? I would buy it from you. Let me know please. The truck looks good sitting on my bench but I bet it drives better.

Would the RC-M motor clamp do you any good? It's meant to hold the Feigao's together so it should work with the LMT 19xx as well.

No it won't. The back of the Lehner motors have the weld marks that would short the motor out if the clamp was attached. Thanks for the idea though.

It would work. Use washers under the bolt heads instead of the cross bar.

The RCM clamp still uses the motor screw holes to hold the motor on the motor mount so if the screw holes are stripped it wount help.


I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

Could you remove the end cap and re-tap the threads? It seems like it would work...

Personally, I wouldn't go with the helicoils on a motor. I'm gonna agree with Cemetary. I would definately pull the motor apart and tap the out to 4mm.

Hey, no problem! Glad I could help...will you buy me one of those??

You could try JB weld on whatever is left of your endcap threads and use the motor clamp along with a spacer of some kind to prevent shorting. Maybe replace the aluminum clamping bar with some 1/4" polycarbonate and also use a zip-tie around the circumference of the motor/motor clamp.

Have you thought about ordering a new endcap direct from LMT? I think they call them "front bearing shields" on the website.

Sorry, if I buy one its going into something of mine. I have been thinking about a water cooled system on an E-Revo. Thinking is the key. I have used JB weld for stuff before. Thats a last ditch option. It gets everywhere. Or maybe thats becuase of my fat fingers. You did bring up a good idea. Using the heat sink as a stabilizer in some way. Maybe turning it over. It should help hold the motor better upside down. I might have to design a heat sink that utilizes that concept. I liked the idea of Mike’s Lehner end cap cover. Maybe I can build a cover like Mikes but add a heat sink running on the top and the bottom. Then I could get the best of all the components and support the motor at the same time. This is becoming more of a project then I was intending. I thought about going directly to LMT but I did that before. When I was looking for a motor I contacted them. They want to do business but through western union. I would not have any guarantee. Plus shipping for one would cost more than the cap. (I think that is)
