MGM Compro 16018 died -
10.23.2007, 01:08 AM
Well, to tell you what happened, it worked great, I ran it about 4 times. I did the Auto Tune, and tuned it on grass one night (maybe the problem). That same day I noticed it would cut out for no reason, then, it would cut out more and more... Now, I can program it fine, via radio or PC but after I'm done, I get BEEP...BEEP over and over.
I tested the following:
1. receiver with another setup, works fine
2. diff motor, both motors are fine
3. Program via PC, and set all values to default, then I had to set to 2 lipo.
4. Program with radio, and set end points
5. I tried 5Lipo setup, 3S and 2S. The 5S will use a y adapter, but that made no difference when I tested with a 2S
At this point, unless someone can think of something, I'm going to send it back.
Now, I can't wait for it to come back so I'm going to buy a second ESC.
Should I just get another MGM 16018 or try the Quark Monster Pro 125B?
I loved the MGM (when it worked) and I would assume this is a fluke. I figure I would want a backup so I can run my truck instead of have it sit and wait for 2 months or so. Then we have the MMM that may come out soon, but again, I don't want to wait. We just met a few guys who have a track and I want to see what my e-maxx can do.
I also did a video showing the problem.
I will buy another ESC, and I kinda want to get another MGM since I know it so well now but I would be ripping if I ran into problems with a second one. Any thoughts may help me decide.

Dang! I hope that is not usual. I have run mine about a dozen time and so far no problems. Good luck.
I just did a forum search "MGM+beeping" and it sounds like a few people have had the constant beeping error but no one posted a fix. They just mailed it back to MGM. Sorry i couldn't help.

Did you get it from Mike? Mine had a phase short on motor and took esc out (this was 2 or 3 weeks before the RC-Monster bash) I sent it to mike around the bash, and its coming back in the mail to me as we speak. If you got it from Mike i suggest you send it to him and let him deal with them
Work because i gotta, play because i wanna
People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

If you don't do the auto tuning, does it beep like that? If not don't do the auto tuning. You already have it setting for Car mode. My 16016 died for real tho LOL. I only get the LED blinks with no sound from the motor.

Yes, I can't get the ESC to work with or with out auto tune.
I will send it to Mike, I bought Quark threw him today. I figure, at this point, it can't hurt to have 2 ESC's on hand, that is once I get this one going.

You guys are not going to believe this, I was emailing back and forth with Petr at MGM, and he said my problem was my minimal throttle position was higher then 1.2ms, which he said won't work.
So, I tested with a traxxas radio and receiver and bingo, it worked!!
Now, I have another thread that my Quark was cutting out, I'm starting to think maybe either the radio or the receiver is the problem. That is what caused me to reprogram the 16018, and which caused it to never work again, since the min value was too high.
Now, what to do, do I get a new radio?? I have wanted a 2.4G for a while.
If I was to consider a new radio and receiver, which one has worked well with the MGM controllers? I may just do that anyway, but before I spend the money I want to make sure it will work with it. Does the Spektrum work well with this controller?

Could you tell me what's the minimal trottle position??
And what's the relation between the minimal trottle position and the time in ms
Because my MGM is suppose to arrive this week and i have a Futaba 3PM FASST 2.4, and i began to be very nervous about that

the only thing thats not compatible will be the hrs mode. i had to switch back to ppm. other than that my radio and esc work in perfect harmony!

But how can i know if my min and max trottle is OK This is suppose to be list in the Tx manual???
And yes tallyram, the first time i've try my FASST, she was on HRS mode and the servos emited a bizard sound and was very hot, and once i've switch to PPM, all return OK.
I think HRS mode is for digital servos.

correct, all i use are digitals. i was just letting you know that hrs won't work with the mgm, so it won't matter for you.

you absolutely can't beat the futaba 3pm fasst system! one of my friends has one and it has almost every option that my 3pks has! not one problem for either of us in 6 months+!

Max throttle is 2ms, min throttle in 1ms, neutral is 1.5ms. Of course, that changes somewhat with EPA and trim...

When you speak about min trottle, this is the max brake position?

Yes, min throttle is the brake position.
Here is that Petr said is the highest value possible. If you are too high you get the warning beeps like I did, which was BEEP..BEEP..BEEP over and over.
min value to be <= 1.1 or 1.2ms, no higher.
Good thing I bought the computer USB+, otherwise I would not have figured this out via email. Also, once the MIN value is wrong, you can't program it at all using the card or the PC. Well, what I didn't try, was to correct it via the PC, I might have been able to. Either way, I think my receiver may be the issue, since I'm having cut out issue with my other ESC.
