Futaba 3PM FM with HRS not working with 2 controllers - 11.02.2007, 12:51 AM

I was able get my hands on a futaba R203HF receiver (HRS) to test with my 2 speed controllers, that I'm having a hard time getting going.

Quark, will not even program
MGM 16018, will program but when I try to run it, I get the warning that the signal dropped.

At this point, I just want a setup that will work. I used my traxxas radio and receiver to test them both, and the MGM worked but the Quark didn't. I don't want to use a traxxas radio, but this was to just make sure the ESC worked.

I would hate to get a new radio and receiver to find they don't work with these controllers, and I did read someone said that the MGM doesn't work with HRS.

I kinda like the Spektrum radio, but don't want to find it doesn't work, and if I get something new I kinda want 2.4G.

I did ask in another thread what people liked, and I appericate that, I did a lot of reading. At this point, I would be interested in knowing what WORKS with both the MGM and the Quark controllers?

For people with a Quark 125B and MGM 16018, which radio and receiver combo works for you?

I use Futaba 3PM 2.4Ghz. Works with quark and mgm no problems at all. Of course you have to reverse throtle channel but thats common on all futaba radios.
I do not use HRS mode but I can try it with mgm.

//edit: Just tried HRS on MGM 4412-3 and it DOES NOT WORK. Programming works but normal operation does not. Mgm just sits there and beeps once in a while. 4412-3 has same software as my big 16018-3 so its gonna be the same.

Wallot, THANKS!! That is the same thing I get with the MGM. The Quark would not even program.

no, mgm will not work with hrs. in futaba's manuals they state that hrs mode isn't compatible with all speed controls, any 2.4 system should be fine though. i just switch mine from hrs over to ppm and all is good!

Does the R603FF receiver support both modes (HRS & PPM)? The receiver I have doesn't, when I use PPM, I get nothing. No signal at all, to the servo either.

I had a problem with the 3PKS using HRS with my MM. The throttle fail safe was on. Some ESC BEC don't put out enough voltage so the throttle fail safe kicks in.

more info, I did get the futaba 3PM 2.4G.

Then, it worked, but it was acting weird, poor throttle, when I hit the breaks the throttle forward would trigger. Odd, because when I was programming this, it worked fine.

Later that day the truck died, so, I'm thinking it was a speed controller issue. When I gave it throttle, I had no power.

SO, I put in a new motor, bingo, nice throttle response and plenty of power again.

I think my motor was starting to go as well. I was on the track and was missing all of the jumps because it was freaking out.

One more thing, the motor was running hot, that might have been the issue, 250 F when I checked it.

I'm using the defaults, but I have Car forward only, and 5 LIPO set. That is it.

At one point, I tried having freewheel set to On, but that was when the throttle was flaky, so I turned that off.
