**New E-Maxx vs Future Brushless E-Maxx -** 12.17.2007, 12:45 AM

My Father in Law would like a new E-Maxx. From what I understand there is a future brushless in the near future. From what I am told it will have two individual VXL systems. My opinion is to get the normal E-Maxx and in the future put in a single brushless system. I have 12020/8XL, I just don't see the advantage of seperate systems. What's the forum's opinion? Thanks!

I believe the dual brushless emaxx is just a rumor. If its not a rumor, then the RTR price is going to be sky high.

A single motor setup is always going to be a more efficient setup as it has less moving parts, less weight, less maintenance, and fewer points of failure.

the new dual V maxx has a traxxas part number - got it from my LHS. TRA3908, i believe. BUT, i think it's all blingy eye-candy. with traxxas, you never know what will come out until it comes out.

This part # is correct, but it will be a single VXL motor. The dual motor setup was something Traxxas did on their own. Technically, they had to rig the 2 speedos to work together as normally they will not.

Is this your opinion, rumor, or do you have some sort of evidence? I would love some evidence, because that could sway me to wait on buying one tomorrow.

I agree. A single high grade BL motor is more efficient than 2 lower grade motors.

More efficient for sure.... but you could only get so much power from a single setup... for speed records, definately dual.. but for race, and bash... not really any advantages...

For everything, a single larger motor is ALWAYS better even for speed runs. Say your batteries can output 1000 watts. Then a 1000 watt motor is all you need. If you hook up two 750 watt motors you are still only getting 1000 watts of power. Your batteries are wher your power comes from, not the motors.

Yeah, i wondered what they were thinking. They had images of the dual brushless up on the day the released the info on the new emaxx. I've never heard of anyone having much luck running 2 BL motors together. I guess we'll see how it pans out. Personally, I would rather get the normal version and outfit it with one large BL motor and a good ESC.

Rumour & here-say. No-one knows what the BL RTR Emaxx will be powered by, but there have been rumours around here for a long time that Traxxas are working with feigao on a single large BL motor, so it makes sense. Plus, Traxxas went to a lot of trouble with the new tranny and single motor mount & cover option, so I believe we will see a big BL motor for the new truck sometime next summer I imagine. Or just buy the MMM in feb....

Fact: They TESTED it with dual brushless system and put out pic's of the tests.
Fact: Traxxas has NOT stated anywhere that it will be offering a full brushless system.

That's about all the facts. Everything else is wishfull thinking.

IMHO. Traxxas did the right thing from a business standpoint. They released a great machine at the same price point as the old Emaxx. Rather than tieing up more capital in design, and even more in inventory, they have given us something more to work with. There is no way they could sell a brushless EMaxx for under 500 bucks, which is quite a bit more than the vast majority of thier customers are willing to spend in one shot. MOST parents are going to choke on the 380 something its retailing at right now (and yes, I am assuming the the majority of RC's are purchased by parents for thier kids).

JThiessen is right on the money. We all know that no matter what the manufacturers put out we are just going to push the limits and rebuild/upgrade/modify and do whatever we can to make it better than the average Emaxx out there. Even if Traxxas puts out an Emaxx with a duel VXL system it will not be good enough for the true RC junkie. There are just too many options out there for us to try and set up our own vehicles to be unique in some way. The stock Emaxx is merely a great starting point for the noobie RC guy or kid who parents are looking for a great toy to give them for Xmas or their birthday
