Help! I'm a Girl and Know Nothing About r/c!! -
12.20.2007, 02:15 AM
Ok, here's the deal. I have a revo chassis, and I'm going electric, more specifically , brushless. i have about $500 for the conversion, so the cheaper the better, but i want to be able to upgrade my motor to a Neu later on, apparently it and the mamba max don't play well :(
what do you recommend instead? might use the tekno conversion kit, because i don't want to use an emaxx tranny, and cut the chassis, all that stuff. Do they make bash-worthy li-po's now?
so so far what i need is
Feigao 540 9L
Tekno conversion kit
ECU of some sort
Battery and charger
that it?
Also one last thing, I keep hearing you guys talking about 'gearing' not sure what you mean, do you mean the spur gear, or inside the tranny? (sounds complicated)
the main thing i want is a e-revo that can keep up with the nitro's and have a long enough run time.

If you run the Tekno conversion then you really won't need to worry about the MM conflicting with the Neu, since the clutch system will allow the motor to spool and virtually eliminate all chances of cogging.
By bath worthy Lipo do you mean resistant to impact (like, physically durable) or do you mean those which have a long run time?
Personally I'd go for some FlightPower Lipo's. They seem a bit expensive but trust me they are well worth it...
BTW, welcome to the forums...
BL Revo: CF G2R, LMT1940/7, 6S FP 30C Lipos, MMM, Hitec 5955TG
CRT .5: 7075 Ext Chassis, LMT1930/7, FP 25C 3S Lipos, MM

Welcome to the forums,
What are you planning to use your Revo for?
Bashing, Racing, Both?
If you want a cheap motor go with a feigao but if you want a very nicely built quality motor at a reasonable price go with a Mega motor ACn22/45/1. I'm sure Mike can get you one and they run smooth on the MM without having to use a nitro clutch.
I would also suggest looking at the NEU Energy cells for the most reasonable price/quality.

thanks for the welcome :) by bash worthy i mean something that won't break, long run time is a plus, from what i read it said li-po's are very delicate.

The Lipo cells will always be vulnerable to punctures or impact damage unless they are encased in a hard material.
There are several manufactures that sell 2S lipo packs in plastic or carbon fiber cases. NEU energy even makes one.
I use a cheap solution from Radio Shack
http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=search
The Radio Shack project enclosures work great for many Lipo packs, you just have to put some foam in them to protect the lipo's and possible add some venting by drilling a few holes but they are only $6 or less

Welcome to the forum
I would highly suggest the tekno kit as I really like mine and have had good success with it while bashing. Have put about 12 packs thru it and nothing has broken or loosened up! Well worth the money and i actually like the clutch idea, it should cure any startup cogging issues that some motor/esc combos have.
You can't go wrong with a mamba max, they are cheap and reliable. I have 7 at the moment and have oly had to send one in for service, and that was my fault! I would say get a feigao 8xl, rcm motor clamp/heatsink and run 4s lipo. The flightpower and neu energy lipos seem to be the best out there, and most have good success with truerc lipos. Hope this helps!

drilling a few holes is nothing :P i used to build robots for a high school team, they had cnc and everything, if they were up and running now i'd sell my own conversion kit :P
so which lipo's would work with the Feigao nicely?
and how much better is this 'mega motor' it looks a lot bigger, and is about twice the price..

Any 20c rated lipo will do the job, preferably 5000mah or higher.
The tekn kit does not require any holes, but you would need to convert over to a single servo for steering. You could also buy a RCM motor mount, and just buy the tekno battery tray and straps. I like the tekno esc mount as it gets the esc out of the way. With an 8xl you could lock the revo in second gear and then use the motor to brake and have reverse. Pulling open the tranny is not bad, just have an exploded diagram handy for reassembly. If you have built robots this should be a walk in the park!

The mega motors are much better than feigao.
The Acn22/45/1 is only around $175, is 6 Pole and would be a killer on 4S

You'd have to contact Mike to order it as I don't see it in the store.
What ever motor you get will only be as powerful as what your batts can provide so Flighpowers or neu energy lipo's will provide 20-30C (plenty of power for 4S)

The Mega motors are pricy, because of the casing design and they are a bit more effecient than the Feigao/ Nemesis motors and maybe higher in quality.
A good pack to go with is the MaxAmp lipo. It'll give you nice power and runtime. You can choose from a wide variety of lipo configurations( check it out in the store).
Any ways, if you want to go serious, the FlightPower and the Neu ones are very good and worth every penny.
The name is Alawi. You can call me Al.
Nice to meet you!

could the rest of my revo handle that?
remember the $500 budget!! :P
by the sounds of it i can upgrade to that later?
one thing i don't like, is that even though the Canadian dollar is higher than the American dollar , the prices here have not changed, think i could work that out with mike?

Be carful. There are some singles guys on here looking for a woman just to not look down on their RC's. Lincpimp is one of the worst.
Welcome!!!

I am all too aware of some guys out there, hah. Like I mentioned, I used to be part of a robotics club, I machined, built, and even designed most of it. However, when it came time to go to Atlanta for the world finals, i was left behind because it would cost too much money to bring me along (with the school board's rules i needed a female teacher to be present(no one would do it), my own section of the bus, my own hotel room, it was almost $2000 blah.) sucks to be the only girl sometimes
I was hoping to go with a pink theme, it's been done though, boo!

Oh aye then, guess that means Im the next singleton in line. Welcome the.wert. Personally speaking I like the look of the Tekno battery and esc mounts etc, but coupled with the RCM motor mount so that you can still have motor braking & reverse. A feigao 8xl on 4s would be great, but you will need a ubec such as the CC item that Mike sells too. Locking the tranny into 2nd gear is easy- diagrams can be had in BrianG's sig (BL conversions- scroll down abit). There are a few hard cased lipos available as has been mentioned, but if the tekno battery tray is used, it is unlikely that you will managed to damage the lipos- newer cells are much less volatile these days. In the future you could easilt go to a neu 1515 1y for cooler running and more power, or perhaps sell of the current setup in favour of the MMM, which should only be about $300 for esc, ubec and motor! Cant say fairer than that really....

Guy's keep in mind she said $500 budget. Lipo's, ESC, UBEC, Motor, Batt trays, Deans, Charger, Pinion gear, ect... (ect being all the stuff I'm forgetting :)
Lipo's- Protek 2S 4000mah (two packs) $120 amainhobbies
ESC- Mamba Max $119 ebay
UBEC- Castle Creations $22 who ever hasd it in stock :)
Motor-Feigao (8 or 9xl) $80 here on RCM
Trays- Build your own, obveously capable$10 in alum. and hardware (the protek are hard packs)
Deans- $15 (get authentic ones)
Charger-Hyperion EOS0606i $135 with membership at MaxAmps (has integrated balancer)
$501 before any shipping, and then there's all the little stuff.
If I could only draw what I see in my head, then afford to build it, and finaly get to play with it...
