CRT .5 brushless conversion project

Evening all!

I've just ordered myself a crt .5 pro kit as a "christmas bonus" present to myself, and I am keen to convert it to run on electrickery, instead of the pesky infernal combustion glow motors. Looking at the specs, the kit seems pretty comprehensive, but obviously it is going to need a few modifications to work well.

I am wondering about buying one of the RC-monster conversion "kits" that include the chassis, motor mount and a few other bits and bobs, as this would make the conversion nice and easy. Can anyone tell me if the standard shell would fit on this extended chassis? Or is an aftermarket shell needed?

My other main choice, is that of motive power. I have had heard good reports on the Mamba Max esc, so one of them is going on the shopping list, but as for the motor, I am still trying to work out which is going to be best. I am planning to use 3s lipo battery packs (I already have a number of these that I use in some of my RC planes). Buying one of the Mamba max sets would probably be easiest for me, but which kv motor to go for? I'm not after an out and out speed machine, just something for bashing in the work carpark/grounds :)

The other thing I was wondering about, is that of pinions/spur gears for the centre diff. Is it usual to use the supplied spur gear, or use an aftermarket one? I presume that the RC monster conversion kit has an adjustable motor mount to allow the use of different pinions?

Sorry about the barrage of questions, I'm off to read up on the CRT .5 conversion threads now, to get some more ideas!

The RCM kit is a awesome kit!

No the stock body will not fit, it would be much to small... The jato bodies work good (proline's and the stock one), nitro rustler bodies (from proline), and then the RC10GT (I think prolines) And I use a T4 body on mine

Whats your budget on a motor? It can cost anywhere from 70 to 200....

You use the stock spur, and in the RCM store there 5mm bore MOD1 pinions, and you have to get the hardened ones (other wise they will get chewed up with the steel spur) And the motor mount is adjustable

i use the ext. chassis and love it, just consider which lipos you buy for fitment with the included battery hold down, or make a new one

most 1/10 electric truck bodies will fit fine,i believe the proline t4 body is a good fit, the stock crt.5 is a little short imo but it works

1/10 truck tires complete the package as the tires that come with it are a little small

i also run the med/blue springs... some run the heavy/white springs

i run the mm , 3s , 9L combo and its great geared 15/46 its plenty fast and powerfull , and temps are cool

the rcm conversion is amazing get it!!! and u could get the 4600 mamba max theres nice on 3s

Just a bit of an update on this project of mine. I've received the kit now, and I am going to use the stock chassis for now, purely to do a bit of playing around with motors/gear ratios to suit my style of driving.

I have decided to start off with the Mamba Max ESC coupled with the 4600kv Mamba motor. I am planning to run a 3s lipo pack, mainly because I have a few of them to use already, and this motor seems like the best one to make use of the battery voltage available.

Regarding the motor mount, then I am in the process of knocking up a replacement diff mount that incorporates a motor mount. Nothing fancy, just basic and functional.

I have ditched the CRT.5 stock brakes, radio tray etc etc, and I am looking into getting the toolroom guys at work to machine a couple of alloy steering mounting posts for me. failing that, I'll hack something out from solid myself :)

I'm looking forward to getting this thing going now :)
