Apogee LiMn

I've always been curious about these, and I have a desire to try these out (probably the 2S 5800mah one).

Anyways, all I know is that they have a different chemistry which apparently makes them safer than actual LiPo. Can anyone comment on actual performance and anything else about these?

If I may also ask a couple questions about these.... can you use a lipo charger to charge these packs? Are the LiMn cells the same voltage as lipo cells?

I cant comment on the actual performance of them as I have never tried them, but what I do know is they are supposed to be safer like an a123. They do have the 3.7v nominal voltage just like a lipo and can be charged using any standard lipo charger.

I have the 2S 3800MAh pack. It's a brutally powerful pack, it wheelies my 5700Kv RC10T4 until the LVC kicks in. They charge like any other LiPo. I love mine!

Yea, was thinking about them. High mah would mean long runtimes and their dimensions should allow them to fit into the new E fine (assuming they eventually come out with hold downs which are tall enough - its only 4mm too tall anyway). Plus, based on their ratings it could easily double in my G2R and my CRT .5 when I want to use lesser voltage.

I'm not changing my mind, I'm more or less just curious about trying them, I always have. However, after looking at the weight and price (now that Brian mentioned it) of the 5800's, I might end up getting the 3800's instead. At 75 a pack its hard to argue, and I'm sure they'd hold up fine under Titan current draw. I'd be a bit worried if I was using them in my G2R, since it even warms up my Evo30's...nothing much, 90F maybe, but my 3S 3700mah Evo25's in my CRT barely get warmer than room temp even after a full pack of nothing but speed runs in grass (which is insane, in a good way).

However, based on the fact that I dished out 125 per pack for my Evo30 2S 4500 FlightPowers, the 3800's appear to be a decent deal, and may be worth trying. We will see (plus, it wont exactly be bad having safer chemistry if I'm going to be driving into puddles and stuff, though I'll still go through some trouble to seal the pack off).

In your situation I didn't see it being a great idea because I was worried about the current and quality (which you also seemed concerned about). FlightPowers are probably still going to be a heck of a lot better, but its not like an E-Maxx with titans is an amp moster lol...

You can not forget that one big difference in the cost of your FP packs is that you paid for the extra 10c discharge capability!!

After I read the BL boat forum's, and asked some questions, some of those guys lipos get submerged for more then 30 mins (so they say...) And all they do is re shrink the packs, but you could do what linc, or sike (forget which one) He uses plasti dip insted of shrink, which would waterproof the pack

I have been using these packs for over a year. They work very well and the 3800's are very well priced!! One big plus, you can charge them at a 2c rating!! The 5800's are definately WAY overpriced though....

I too have been using 3800's for about a year, and I love that you can charge at 2c when in a hurry.

What are you using to balance these (tap wise)?

I have only heard good things about these packs.

The price of these are a bit higher because the chemistry is so much safer then Lipo. When Apogee provides more pack options (4S etc), I'll probably get some.

I have always used an Astro Blinky. However, I am now trying a GP Equinox with optional charge leads to allow 5 amp charging and balancing through the unit. It should give me better life out of my packs, but only time will tell.
