My Crt.5 - 01.07.2008, 06:42 PM

Got this truck from starscream today as a roller and finsihed putting it together a little while ago. Ran a pack thru it and everything seems to be ok. I am running a Plett Maxximum on a maxamps 4200 3s pack (3s2p 2100 cells). The Mamba max seems to be doing ok, after 30mins of mixed bashing everything was barely warm. Truck is geared 13/46, so about 35mph with stock tires. I may gear it up to 40 or so, but I wanted to test my home made hardened pinion.

What I did was took the 1st 13t gear pinion of an emaxx input shaft. This gear appears to be factory hardened as it was very hard to drill. I took the torch to it and heated it up till it was uniform red and let it cool. That softened it up enough to drill and tap easily for the set screw. I used a m4 thread screw with a 2mm hex, std size for larger pinions. After I drilled and tapped it, I heated it up to red again and then quenched it in 10w30 oil. After the run it had barely worn the black off the gear so I guess it is ok. I will run it for a while and see how long it lasts. The mesh is very smooth, so the gear must have the correct pressure angle to it. It is also reasonably quite too.

I am very happy with the performance and would recommend this combo to anyone, much better than a feigao l can and the same esc and batts.

Heres the pics, with the pinion fresh out of the oil.

It is a nice motor, was wondering if you can order it with a 5mm shaft? If so it would be great. I know that they offer a few different kv choices, mine is a 3100kv which is the std (I think?).

Nice! I had the same idea with the 13t gear from the e-maxx trans. I was able to drill it out, but not tap it. I guess I have to heat it up and let it cool slow, then heat it up and quench it really quick?

Bye

I'm looking for a 3S motor to run on my CRT.5, but that Plettenberg looks expensive and heavy. Is there someone in the US that sells them and has info on a web site?

E-CRT.5 Monster - RCM chassis, MM/Medusa 50x3300/3s, truck tires, 1/8 shocks
E-CRT.5 Stock - Sidewinder/4600/2s, buggy tires
E-8ight - Tekin RX8 2000kv/4S
E-8ight T- Tekin RX8 1700kv/5S

If you want a Maxximum with a 5mm shaft, you have to order the Maxximum with fan. Here you see the the Maxximum with fan next to your Maxximum

The kv of both the Maxximum is 3000, but if you contact Plettenberg, you can get also a 2200kv version.

Thanks Bl-Power, I thought that plett would provide a differnt kv if asked. Is the fan really necessary? My plett runs extrenmely cool, like 100f after 30mins, if that. Maybe on a larger/heavier vehicle that could provide a bigger load?!

In such a light vehicle like yours, a fan isn't necessary. The fanned version is only needed in heavier vehicles, here in Germany some people are using the fanned Maxximum in their E-Maxx and Revo conversions. They get up to 1400watt out of it, their motor doesn't get hotter than 150f even if they are running through high grass in summer.

I would definately recommend the ext chassis from mike. I had a stock crt.5 when they first came out and did not like it, just too small. With the ext chassis and truck wheels and tires it is great. Handles well and has enough space on the chassis for the gear.

Thought about it, but realized that I had the plett laying around and had the 3s pack that fit perfectly with the stock clamp. I have a brand new ls10 still in the box that I may try a hy setup with

Also looking to do a hv setup in my hyper 7 buggy. How does 9s 2500mah 18c lipos thru a 1300kv aveox sound. Maybe try the great planes hv60 esc and see how that goes. Not sure if i have the room for the batts, but I can check tomorrow.
