single speed or 2 speed ?. - 01.08.2008, 06:47 PM

as i have said before im considering converting either this car http://ofna.com/images/UltraGTP/ultra-gtp-oval-big.jpg or this car http://kyoshoamerica.com/carsandtruc...ars/31812B.asp. One is asingle speed & the other is a 2 speed. With aelctric motor is the 2 speed really nessecary ?. I think with a bl motor it would shoot right thru first gear making it usless in my opinion. What is everyone's opinion ?. Im thinking maybe a 8 or 9 XL with 4s.

Well, the ultra gtp oval comes with a sloid center shaft with a steel spur, the popular 51t ofna plastic spur will bolt right on, so that is a good thing. Depends on how fast you want to go. The two speed will allow a much higher top speed, especially with a big motor like the xl on 4s. You could gear 1st for around 40 and then when it hits 2nd you would be flying! I am leaving my yusa on road car with the 2speed, and top speed should be somewhere around 70mph IIRC. If you just want to do 40 or so the single speed will be fine, plus you can use motor brakes, much simpler and a little lighter than the 2speed mech brake setup. I guess it all dependes what you want to use the car for. If you are just playing around in a parking lot, or smaller track the single speed will be fine. Plus a 8xl on4s will really be fast!
