How to strip anodizing...

Looked on net and said to use "greased lightening"...

Bought a bottle slapped it on 1hr later nothing!

Cheap ideas?

PS it is for a stock emax motor mount...

I have heard Easy Off oven cleaner works but I have never tried it. Can anyone confirm whether this works?

It works, but sometimes its hit or miss. Depends on the aluminum and the anodizing I think. I've never had it all come completely off, but from what I've said, it's supposed to...

I guess you could used a dremel with a steel brush bit....and then use some fine grit sand paper to take out the swirls...then finish up by polishing it with Mothers AL compound. Probably not the best way but it seems like it would work.

Lye, straight lye. It will eat it right off, but do it outside and DONT breathe the fumes or get it on you! It can also get pretty hot, so be careful. Took about 5 minutes to strip all of the ano off my AX10 kit.

Easy off is lye. Sodium hydroxide.

After it has done taking the anodizing off, put the parts into a bath of water and baking soda. Get the mixture as thick as possible, and use the soda to polish the aluminum and neutralize the lye at the same time. If you don't do this it will etch the aluminum and turn it nasty grey. If the Lye gets on you, wash it with vinegar or baking soda. Don't just wash it with water, the burn will happen from a few minutes to a few hours later depending on how thick your skin is. Lye is a very basic solution on the ph scale.

Where can you buy Lye? Under what product name is it offered?

This is what I use; it has never failed me. Did you just brush some on or submerge it? You have to submerge it for it to work, after about 40min the aluminum will have turned black-ish and then you just polish. I have also cut it with water(about 50% water) to save some, but it will take longer.

Mag wheel cleaner will also do it. Not aluminum but chrome wheel cleaner. You will have to polish it afterwards. Here is a set of beadlocks I just did.

Yep, those are Axial 40 series beadlocks.
